“Get the antennae! Get the antennae!”
I went into the film expecting a huge cheese-fest that would’ve felt right at home in the 50’s monster film genre; however, I felt with an entertaining, sturdy as all hell political film with as huge emotional resonance and nuclear weapon analogy’s as Godzilla. It’s easily noticeable the two similarities between the two, but here the film feels much more akin to crafting the personal side of everything. Them! is a crafty and fun as hell B-movie, but don’t let that distinction affect your view on the movie because director Gordon Douglas puts his all in crafting some of the better special effects I’ve seen from the decade. As well as crafting some good character dynamics and a well done story that keeps you interested throughout the short and sweet 94 minute runtime. Not something that totally blew me away, but the surprise I had at how well made this is, was just enough.
