$pread Magazine Call for Submissions & Editorial staff-track positions
We are passing this request along for the good people at $pread Magazine who are looking for some talent writers, artists and photographers as well as few good interns! Could one of them be you?
Tired of seeing sex workers misrepresented and sensationalized in the media, $pread Magazine is a space for sex workers to speak for themselves. $pread Magazine was launched on March 15th, 2005, and by the end of that first year the unique, quarterly magazine had received the Utne Independent Press Award for Best New Title.
$pread Magazine accepts submissions from female, male, and trans people who have worked in the sex industry.

$pread Magazine maintains an extremely inclusive editorial policy as their aim is to be a wide-ranging forum for the diverse voices of sex workers from all backgrounds. They especially encourage people of color, trans people, male sex workers, those living outside of New York, and people with a porn or prostitution background to apply, although they encourage everyone to submit work!
STAFF-TRACK POSITIONS
We are currently looking for qualified people to join all our teams [on an intern-to-staff basis]. Positions we are currently looking to fill include:
o Editors: Columnists/section editors/editors sought. For editors, we prefer to work with people on a single writing piece first, before consideration for a longer-term assignment.
o Advertising Director: Organize existing advertisers and drum up new advertisers, send invoices and follow up on payments.
o Design Team: production artists / designers. People who can use InDesign [or are keen to learn]. People with an interest in print production.
o Outreach Assistants: Work with outreach team to get $pread to many parts of our community!
o Web Assistant: help with website and web presence maintenance. WordPress experience or interest to learn an asset.
o Publicity Assistant: publicize $pread and attract readership.
CREATIVE CONTRIBUTIONS
o WRITING: You don’t have to be a previously published writer to write for $pread. We are always looking for people to contribute to the following regular sections of the magazine:
- Cunning Linguist – definitions of industry terminology
- Scene Report – short articles about what a specific industry is like in a region [eg, dancing in Atlanta]
- News – articles on news items relating to the sex industry
- Reviews – of recent books, movies, performances, websites, media etc. related to the sex industry
- Consumer Reports
- Style - we are looking for sexworkers who design clothes to submit information for consideration for review in our style section, and people to submit photographs of themselves in work and non-work clothes
We also welcome pitches for feature length articles and interviews and consider creative non-fiction, fiction, and poetry for our words section.
o ART: We welcome submissions of illustrations and photographs.
[We do not offer payment for articles or art at this time, but you will receive a publishing credit and a copy of the magazine in which your work appears.]
