A few impressions of Jensen and Jared's tours through the city in pictures.

"Dude, we look like freaking American tourists," Jared laughs.

Glancing down at themselves, Jensen has to agree. The map in hand, the camera around his neck, the shorts, shirts, the flip-flops and on top of that looking a little lost and overwhelmed by everything.

"Yeah, but that's because we totally are," he says with a wink.

But Jensen's only listening half-heartedly as Jared goes on about the apparent rivalry between two of the most important artists of the time when all of this was build. Jensen's mind is occupied with Jared's thigh hot against his own, Jared's voice a low whisper that tingles in Jensen's belly.

Jared reads about Bernini and how he was one of the most successful architects in Rome during its Baroque period and about his archrival Borromini. He reads about Bernini's fountain, the big fountain they're looking at, located just in front of Borromini's church Sant'Agnese. A legend says that the face of the personification of Nile is covered with a stone cloth, the face of Ganges even turned away, just so that both statues won't have to look at the church.

They manage to find two empty spots on the benches on the side, where they simply continue listening to their audio guides. There are frescos everywhere, the walls, the whole ceiling. There's not one single white spot. They learn that many great artists spent years working on it. What they also learn about is the various subjects of the paintings: the ancestors of Christ, the life of Christ, the life of Moses, God's creation of the World and The last Judgment.

Jensen's currently listening to the specifications of the most famous fresco on the ceiling – Michelangelo's
Creation of Adam. He's torn from his thoughts as he feels a hand slip into his own, squeezing it a little. When he looks to the side, Jared is smiling at him secretly, squeezes his hand one last time before he lets go.

Inside St. Peter's. The bronze baldachin by Bernini underneath the cupola by Michelangelo. Picture credit: piercoop at Flickr.

The baldachin is about 100 feet high and generously decorated with gold. On the top there are four statues of saints – St. Helen, St. Longinus, St. Andrew and St. Veronica – and below the altar is said to be the tomb of St. Peter.

Looking up to the cupola above the baldachin, the bright colors and the rich decorations once more catch Jensen's attention. There's a Latin inscription that he doesn't understand. Turning around to Jared, he asks, "What d'you think this means?"

Jared's gaze follows to where Jensen is pointing to before he shrugs and flicks through the pages of the travel guide. "Only one way to find out."

Jensen studies Jared from the side as Jared licks his lips in concentration. He'd die for a kiss right now, but once more Jensen becomes aware that his desire is absolutely inappropriate for his current location.

Finally, Jared says something. "You brought me up here to get lucky?"

The blood in Jensen's veins immediately freezes. Is he that obvious? He quickly starts murmuring something about being sorry and that he didn't mean to. That he doesn't want Jared to get a wrong impression and that he simply read that the view from up here is one of the best you can get. He keeps on rambling until Jared silences him with a kiss.

Today's inside of the Colosseum. The arena and the hypogeum. Picture credit: 9147703@N03 at Flickr.

They kill time by reading about the Colosseum's 2,000 years of history. How it was build by the Flavian dynasty to propitiate the people during the first century, how it got its name from a colossal bronze statue of Emperor Nero that's no longer there and how more than 9,000 animals, most of them exotic, were killed during the inauguration games for entertainment purposes.

Once they're inside, the Colosseum feels a lot smaller than it looks from the outside and it definitely looks less glamorous. They walk around a little, not believing that this place was suitable to seat 50,000 people.

"This looked different in Gladiator," Jared says out loud what Jensen has been thinking.

Jared takes another step closer until his front and Jensen's back are touching. This time, Jensen can't resist the urge and leans back, feeling Jared against him. Jared's hands come around Jensen's waist, circling it and just holding him for a moment. Then he shoves his hands underneath Jensen's shirt and softly strokes over Jensen's sensitive skin.

The Fontana di Trevi. One of the most beautiful fountains in the city. In the movie "La Dolce Vita" by Fellini, Anita Ekberg takes a bath in it and Marcello Mastroianni joins her and they make out. Picture credit: gmacorig at Flickr.

All of a sudden, Jared asks, "Hey, if I step into the water, will you come in and make out with me?"

Jensen's perplexed for a moment, not getting the reference at first, and then he grins at Jared before he says, "No, because you're not Anita Ekberg and I'm not Marcello Mastroianni. Besides, I think those guys would have something against it."

"Poor guy," Jensen snickers, "He can't even get laid."

Jared gives Jensen a leer grin before he whispers into Jensen's ear, "Not everyone can be as lucky as you, Mr. Ackles."

He runs a hand over the inside of Jensen's thigh and if Jensen wasn't already hard from the seductive tone in Jared's voice and all the innuendo, he'd be as soon as the tips of Jared's fingers trace over his crotch.

Maybe some of you have been to Rome, others have seen pictures, other have neither. I was worried I'd bore you guys with a too long picspam so I decided to select my personal most favorite pictures and keep them very few. However, I did set up an account at del.icio.us where you can find a lot more pictures of all the places that were mentioned in the fic. It's over 80 pictures and you can find them here.
