Gaz Memory Game is definitely more accessible than Monk’s other releases. Playful, evocative and boundary-smashing. Favorite track: Turtle Dreams Cabaret: Tokyo Cha Cha.

    rachel thumbnail
rachel Interesting exploration of sound while unapologetically meshing eastern and western ideas about music and culture to create a cohesive project. Album is a total banger and helped me with my Arabic lessons. Thank you kindly. Favorite track: Kadhdhaab.

David Whatson I bought this on the recommendation of a magazine review, something I hardly ever do. This time however, WOW! This whole album is a beautifully crafted, completely hypnotic, sonic exploration of Lagos. I play this album a lot and it never gets old. Well worth it! Favorite track: Ayilara.

Levrikon My favorite albums of 2022, #15.
Amazing sound art created entirely from field recordings made around Lagos, Nigeria. Genius work with a limited toolkit.
    Michael J Bates thumbnail
Michael J Bates This really is special, nothing quite like this out there at the moment.
This is definitely in my 2022 Top 11. Favorite track: Oju 2.0.

  5. Travel
    by The Necks
    supported by
    rvss.eel thumbnail
rvss.eel You'd think that the statement "this is the work of amazing musicians playing together" should apply to everything that I choose to listen to, but I still feel the need to emphasize it here. Four songs, 17-21 minutes each, and every moment is alive with intensity, filled with atmosphere, shrouded with energy that pulls you forward even in the most repetitive or simplistic moments. Travel is dramatic, in the calmest, coolest way, and it is very good. Favorite track: Signal.
    James Christie thumbnail
James Christie I have been a collector of many of the Necks albums and seen them live a few times. I think this might be the highlight of their recorded work. Complex but accessible, diving, flowing and alive . Can't yet pick a favourite

c11p Time and time again, these astounding musicians, the greatest of the greats, elicit emotions that no one else can. No one can make me FEEL music as purely as The Necks. Favorite track: Forming.
