RJ Blackbraid came storming onto scene seemingly out of nowhere in 2022 and since then have released 3 exceptional melodic black metal albums (as of 2025). A powerful performance with some of the best production you can ask for. Let’s hope this absurdly prolific and consistent project continues for a long time. 9/10 Favorite track: The Dying Breath of a Sacred Stag.

Ricardo Cristof Well, after listening to Death and Black Metal for over 35 years, it sometimes gets boring, even if bands try to innovate. But then you stumble upon an album, which immediately clicks: it fresh, but familiar. It’s emotional, intelligent and complex, but not for complexities’ sake. It flows, it works, it’s authentic.
This album is absolutely great, it’s all I want from this kind of music: cold soundscapes, raging fires, the embrace of darkness. 10/10

Obsidian One The spirit returns in one of the most important albums in recent metal history. "Moss Covered Bones" at 8:01 — can you feel it? Krieger channels the fierce soul of his heritage, with echoes of generations of oppression and resilience, rising again through the raw, rebellious power of black metal, with stunning acoustic beauty as well. Do you see it? Do you hear it? Hail to the witch hawk and the force he brings to the scene. Favorite track: A Song of Death on Winds of Dawn.

I finally got this because I wanted something truthful and brilliant to pair with The Rime of Memory, and I inexplicably remembered that someone’s review of Blackbraid II had mentioned Panopticon. Thanks, Metallurgical Fire, I owe you! Favorite track: Moss Covered Bones on the Altar of the Moon.

𝕽𝖔𝖓𝖓𝖎𝖊 𝕿𝖍𝖊 𝕳𝖔𝖗𝖓𝖊𝖉 Pioneers of the revival of Antifascist Black Metal in the late 2010's, Feminazgûl has largely contributed to broadening the base and audience of the genre : with a truly unique style, drawing as much from melancholic ambient/folk as from sharp atmospheric metal, or even from a few touches of symphonic, the quality of the band has served the cause not only in substance but also in form. This split with the excellent piece from Awenden in addition is one of the many proofs 🏴⚔️🚩 Favorite track: Feminazgul - Call Out Her Name When You're Lost.

quelana Melancholy, melodic black metal that is at once an escape from the horrors of our world and a scream of furious hope against them. There's good in this world, and it's worth fighting for. Favorite track: Illa, Mother of Death.

porcelainheart- I'll be kicking myself for not having checked out Feminazgul sooner for a while. This is awesome. Wave after tidal wave of crashing riffs and blast beats. This is sort of like Svalbard if they tried their hand at black metal. Favorite track: I Pity the Immortal.

RJ Atmospheric, even ambient at times, doom laden black metal with synth layering. There are parts of this album I like, and other parts that I do not enjoy as much. That being said I still appreciate the overall concept and performance. 6/10 Favorite track: The Rot in the Field is Holy.
