  1. The Smell of Rain
    by Mortiis
    supported by
    the_empty_core thumbnail
the_empty_core Despite being a sonic evolution from his earlier dungeon synth releases, the Smell of Rain still sits nicely alongside them as it's very much an album that speaks to the imagination first (if you know what I mean).
Musically, it's a collage of influences - lovely 'Enigma'esque' parts collide with industrial guitar and all mixed up with a great catchy, dark pop sensibility. Highly recommended. Favorite track: Everyone Leaves.
    Nocturnal Egg (Jordan) thumbnail
Favorite track: Scar Trek / Parasite God.
    Pale thumbnail
Pale A must have for any fan of dungeon synth or electronic, mortiis lets his imagination run wild on this album and it shows from the brain itching drum beats to the glorious vocals, an album deserving of no skips. Favorite track: Monolith.

    kstatick thumbnail
kstatick they have such a unique sound. and their songs have such a groove to them. its impossible not to dance, even when I'm stuck in my chair at work. Favorite track: We Share Our Mothers's Health.
    arcx.soux thumbnail
arcx.soux still one of the best albums ever released: for the track sequencing, for the sound design, for the restraint and probably most of all for the almost lynchian cast of characters and the stories they have to tell. Favorite track: Forest Families.
    Gleanie thumbnail
Gleanie Cold, dark, unnerving electronic music. Less focused and polished than its predecessor, more experimental than ever. A lot of the songs are less vocal-centric, they focus more on atmosphere.
Some of the songs, especially From Off To on feel like direct precursors to the Fever Ray debut.
We Share Our Mother's Health is one of my favorite songs of all time. It sounds like it could fit Deep Cuts, but it's crazier than most things on there. Favorite track: We Share Our Mothers's Health.

Gleanie It is rare for me, that my favorite album from a band I love is both their least diverse and least weird, it is however the case here. This is the purest concentration of the anxious, frustrated, fun energy I love The Knife for, presented in a way that sounds almost normal. Heartbeats and You Take My Breath Away are perfect pop songs; Listen Now is what eurodance would've been if it didn't suck; Rock Classics and Got 2 Let U are sleazy in the best way possible. Incredible album. Favorite track: Got 2 Let U.
    CF777 thumbnail
CF777 Hard to pick but wow, this album has been so influential to me its insane Favorite track: You Make Me Like Charity.

maskedman000 I still remember the effect this album had on me when it first came out! Amazing!! Favorite track: Pass This On.

Gleanie This was my introduction to The Knife (if we don't count the Fever Ray debut), and it had such an impact on me, it took me several years to actually give their other albums a chance. Really fun, colorful DIY pop music. Probably their most diverse album which is always a plus for me. It is very difficult to pick a favorite song, so I just went with the prettiest, most heart-wrenching one. Favorite track: N.Y Hotel.
    maskedman000 thumbnail
maskedman000 These were just great! I miss these guys a lot! Favorite track: Lasagna.
    suribe thumbnail
suribe Such an amazing sound. Dark and powerful. I've been listening to it for the past weeks and I just love it. Favorite track: I Take Time.
    iidebaser thumbnail
iidebaser Even years after this came out, and as many times as I've heard it, sometimes I listen to "A Lung" like 18 times in a row. The beat is perfect, the synths are perfect, the lyrics are nonsense, the vocals are perfect. Favorite track: A Lung.

samchronic Classic and hard to find album - this and The Smell of Rain are my favorite albums by Mortiis. So glad to find them here! Sound quality is awesome!
    Nocturnal Egg (Jordan) thumbnail
Favorite track: Decadent & Desperate.

Jen Tyle Banger album. I also got this on vinyl from MOTV shop, the pressing is amazing! Favorite track: Mors Ultima Ratio.
    doive thumbnail
doive I'm so thrilled by this album, it has such a darkened vibe overall, it always was in the air with Perturbator but this time it's slightly more acute and I really can't say I disapprove of it in any way whatsoever. Excellent darkwave right here, you know what to do.. Favorite track: Age of Aquarius (ft. Alcest).
