Obstacle of Affliction Looking forward to getting probed during this first contact!
    YomaBarr thumbnail
YomaBarr Sounds like from the outer limits of metal, not just space. Why am I thinking of Pincer Consortium?
    Urso X thumbnail
Urso X All of us sci-fi nerds here, I see 😆

Seriously tho, I fully agree with my fellow reviewers: this sounds like it’s from another world/dimension. As Ping notes, Endspace incarnates “the alien” within its very form! Can’t wait for the rest to drop!!

  2. Dreaming the Strife for Love
    by Bedsore
    supported by
    StrengthWithin thumbnail
StrengthWithin I did not see this progression coming from this band. This maybe the oddest combination of genres I’ve ever encountered. The dreamy quality stands in stark contrast to many of the vocal parts. The psychedelic feel enhances the sheer depth of sound. And is that a saxophone???
    Ippocalyptica thumbnail
Ippocalyptica Zany, bombastic, and adventurous, Dreaming the Strife for Love is vaguely similar to Blood Incantation’s fusion of progressive rock and death metal from Absolute Elsewhere, but is actually quite different beyond the superficial connections. Bedsore goes for a more operatic and fun approach, with more progressive and way less death metal, and it really works here. There is something about Italian metal bands, like Devil Doll and Bedsore, where seamless genre-blending is second nature. Lovely!
    Bart thumbnail
Bart I shouldn't like this, because most prog stuff makes me sleepy and bored. This weird beast doesn't. I can't put my finger on why, but those who normally shy from proggy metal might want to give this some time. Favorite track: Scars of Light.

StrengthWithin Between the time when the oceans drank Atlantis, and the rise of the sons of Aryas, there was an age undreamed of. And unto this, Conan, destined to bear the jeweled crown of Aquilonia upon a troubled brow. It is I, his chronicler, who alone can tell thee of his saga. Let me tell you of the days of high adventure
    Dante Ruivo thumbnail
Dante Ruivo Simply one of the best death doom records ever Favorite track: A Rain Of Ash.
    feythorshearth thumbnail
feythorshearth Wide Atmosphere of heavy death metal. This was in my top 5 of 2020. Gorgeous art and an even better album mix.

9/10 Favorite track: Below Black Waters.

    by Veytik
    supported by
    Luke thumbnail
Luke Trve black metal in 2025 needs to tick 3 boxes: Go hard as hell. Accept zero Nazi bs. And be recorded in your garage while your kids are at preschool. And this debut by Veytik has it all! An odyssey of savage bronze age castle metal sure to please any crenelation enthusiast. I was introduced to this project via the brilliant Burnt Lodge with whom it shares a different theme but similar flair. And it scratches the same itch that recent favourite Marrow of Man does for me. Car pool hailz!! ⚔️ Favorite track: Orontes Stained Red.
    𝕽𝖔𝖓𝖓𝖎𝖊 𝕿𝖍𝖊 𝕳𝖔𝖗𝖓𝖊𝖉 thumbnail
𝕽𝖔𝖓𝖓𝖎𝖊 𝕿𝖍𝖊 𝕳𝖔𝖗𝖓𝖊𝖉 Sublime ramification of Black/Death Metal, the Castle Metal scene continues to make its way. After Obsequiae, pioneers of the movement, then following the example of artists like Morke or Weald & Woe, we discover with pleasure Veytik : adding an aggressive side to its vocals as well as a dynamic approach to its rhythm, the band obviously keeps the melodic elements and the medieval instrumental parts that make up the whole identity of the genre. Veytik hits hard and we love it !
    chay thumbnail
chay A blistering and melodic chariot charge that slashes the ears and quenches the thirst for battle. An absolute tale of victory and vanquished foes, a spectacle fitting for the whole family upon your castle wall premium seats. Favorite track: Orontes Stained Red.

  5. Striving Toward Oblivion
    by VORGA
    supported by
    doive thumbnail
doive Here's to some more cosmic metal, the Karlsruhe based outfit offers crude yet extremely well produced sound in this earlier effort.
Featuring mid-tempo cadences, occasional blast beating, high pitched shrieking essentially, the riffing has this mildly meaty, sensational over-atmospheric tilt that's always well received on my part.
The perspective of getting sucked into a wormhole had never felt better I kid you not.
Emperor and Inherits the Void in mind, you just can't skip this one. Favorite track: Last Transmission.
    sashavonkarl74 thumbnail
sashavonkarl74 Never say Never, as they say, maybe just "later"... that's what happened to me with Vorga. Seen them live, was not in the right mood maybe, but the new release "Beyond the Palest Star" convinced me to give this album a try too, and I was happy I did. Vorga play very good, fine melodic Black Metal !! Favorite track: Fool's Paradise.
    mintymetal thumbnail
mintymetal so many gems in this album but after i went through this in order for my review, i kept returning to this anguished call to humanity, an emblem of despair in vast nothingness. a shred of hope dashed, as this album as a whole speaks to the annihilation of the ideals of humanity and the pedestals they sit on - and what happens when we watch all that shatter. there are plenty of outer space themed albums, but VORGA brings us something worth listening to. Favorite track: Last Transmission.

Fas Fav BM album of this year
    Metallurgical Fire thumbnail
Metallurgical Fire Medeia is correct, this is in the top 5 of 2021. It took a couple of years to hit me right. Inferno is one of the few bands that sounds different on every album, but in a way that builds on what’s come before. Astounding drummer. Favorite track: Stars Within and Stars Without Projected into the Matrix of Time.

Ippocalyptica Inferno is clearly just competing with themselves at this point. These available 7.5 minutes are enough to know that Sophisms will be a real contender this year. More thoughts on 17 July.

noeffenpicks When I first heard Nassaru, I thought it was something like Nosferatu… and then that opening first vocal declaration hits… fuck me! Then when I read the lyrics and looked deeper into the backstory, I was moved by this touching tribute to a fallen brother. The song itself is groove laden and has an underlying intensity that speaks to the convictions behind its subject matter. I’m definitely going to look deeper into Nassaru’s work. Thanks gents. Favorite track: Nassaru.
    x-camp0 thumbnail
x-camp0 A fortunately relatable title for such a new beginning. Coming of age is perhaps another term that suits even our own status. Much appreciated as always. Favorite track: Lie in Cinder.

    sashavonkarl74 thumbnail
sashavonkarl74 Take a mix of classic, guttural and epic Abhorrence & Demigod, add a hint of keyboard, a pummelling drumming and pace changes to keep things surprising, and you get maybe a slight idea of what this masterpiece will bring!

Can you imagine these guys sharing a stage with REEKING AURA?? Favorite track: FUNEBRARUM - The Whispering Cathedral - Epilogue.
Brett (Lascaille's Shroud / Soulmass) thumbnail
Brett (Lascaille's Shroud / Soulmass) An incredible return after almost two decades, and perhaps their best yet. Stellar production and performances all around. Favorite track: FUNEBRARUM - Through the Barren Halls of Grieving Emptiness.
    Quill thumbnail
Quill Brutality prefaced by a grand and terrible introduction, and punctuated by a bewitching interlude. Favorite track: FUNEBRARUM - Through the Barren Halls of Grieving Emptiness.

mourner Groovy and crushing filthy death metal, just they way one has to love. This will make you smash your head in banging. Favorite track: Translucent Visions.
    poisonremedy thumbnail
poisonremedy Mid to slow paced, thunderous, deep and pretty dang evil atypical Swedish Death that doffs it's hat as much to Asphyx and Bolt Thrower as it does Entombed or Grave. Fantastically in-depth conceptual 'thinking person's gore' style content too. Intelligent, bowel-loosening, trundling Death Metal that's gonna crush you under it's tracks if you don't get out the way. Favorite track: Madness Of Creation.
    StrengthWithin thumbnail
StrengthWithin Like Ash says “GROOVY” Favorite track: Life In The Sewers.
