toad Dazzling jazz-death fusion of the highest caliber. Sarmat are undoubtedly one of the leading forces in fusing death metal and jazz with brilliant improvisation. Favorite track: Serum Visions.

  2. The Bestiary
    by Castle Rat
    supported by
    Eli thumbnail
Eli I was first drawn to the Rat Queen by her image alone, but when I heard her voice and the music of the realm, I instantly fell in love with all things Castle Rat. They are easily one of my favorite bands of all time. All is forever, in this realm!!! I seriously can’t get enough of them; it’s the band I’ve been searching for my whole life. Epic, just absolutely fucking epic in every aspect! I will forever serve the Rat Queen. Favorite track: WIZARD.
    ferretofdoom thumbnail
ferretofdoom A great album, reminds me completely of old days playing fantasy TTRPGs and watching the old movies like Deathstalker! Rock on, Castle Rat! Favorite track: SUMMONING SPELL.

SG Mikaelsson Absolute perfection in the art of the Dissonant Death Metal genre, and Colin Marston's signature sound.
     ஓநாய் மற்றும் நாய் மற்றும் thumbnail
    ஓநாய் மற்றும் நாய் மற்றும் song writing is a 10, production is a 10, bass playing 11.
    MindOverFour thumbnail
MindOverFour I doubt that there will be a better death metal album in 2017. Still, to call this "death metal" is a bit reductive. It has blackened doom aspects and a reliance on atonality that is closer to 70's jazz-fusion-art-rock rather than death metal riffage. Favorite track: Obsidian Wing.

  4. PESTIFERE- There Was Never Light
    by Ordovician Records
    supported by
    Nuclear Girl thumbnail
Nuclear Girl I'm often mixed on the more melodic side of things, but Pestifere's energy and business matches Ungfell and Passeisme easily, albeit replacing medieval mischief with crushing, emotional outbursts. Favorite track: Fade at Dawn.
    porcelainheart- thumbnail
porcelainheart- Very impressive debut, took me a while to realize this band has members of another band that are both local to me! FFO Wayfarer and Pure Wrath. Favorite track: Between the River and the Wood.
    JDMP thumbnail
JDMP nasty as nasty gets. make sure to buy this and see for yourself!
    sashavonkarl74 thumbnail
sashavonkarl74 Minneapolis-based experienced musicians releasing here a kind of sophisticated and hyper-layered & interesting blackened DM new album. It is their third full-length actually, and the song writing is mature and overall such a well crafted opus. Black/death but with such a layered, complex sound, so rich of elements. Melancholic and overwhelming, immersive and dark, devastating yet uplifting. Apotheosis eargasmica!! What a gem !! Favorite track: Between the River and the Wood.

sonikdeath77 Even in the amazing year 2022 (2023 as I type this), music can do something new with the same old constituent parts. This is good stuff, headbanging skonk. As an aside, this was released on my birthday and the baritone saxophonist shares my name (minus an 'e').
    riivaa thumbnail
riivaa It's the amazing saxocore colossus, bashing through the industry.

One of the most curious releases of 2022. Give it a try. Favorite track: It's Right This Way.
    Jon M thumbnail
Jon M Thanks to YomaBarr for putting this in my feed. I don't know what the genre is either, but I dig this! Jazz and hardcore? Something like Yakuza maybe but with more math...Definitely some cool ideas at work here Favorite track: It's Right This Way.

No God Unconquered No God Unconquered

    doive thumbnail
doive Surging with raw energy and bringing more of their high tier technicality, Disentomb is back with another Ep that is sporting a way cleaner production without etching the primal qualities of the compositions much. Special mention goes to the guttural vocals and their effects which bolster both an absolutely haunting and grinding feel that I'll never get tired about. *8/10* Favorite track: Nothing Above.
    R thumbnail
R Disentomb is awesome. The currently available tracks are sick. Can’t wait for this one

    Edit:
After listening to this for the past couple of months I can confidently say that this among the year’s best. Disentomb is aging like a fine wine and has developed a sound that is catchy, dark, instantly recognizable as their own which makes them stand out among their peers. They sound like hell on earth. I’d place this alongside Defeated Sanity’s latest as 2024’s best BDM releases.
    Hollow thumbnail
Hollow So much brutality. I cant handle it! Favorite track: When The Black Begins, The Forked Tongue Hisses.

    Sid thumbnail
Sid I've known about Disentomb for a long time. When they first came out, they were a very promising brutal death metal band, but I felt they had yet to fine tune their style.

It seems like they finally achieved it with The Decaying Light. While comparing their demo to this release, it may feel like a long departure from their original sound, but I feel their musicianship here is some of the best stuff I've heard in years.

For fans of Defeated Sanity, Disgorge, and Revulsed. Favorite track: Your Prayers Echo into Nothingness (feat. Matti Way).
    Grindfatherrr thumbnail
Grindfatherrr This album changed me in some ways. I don't know how, but I feel it. I like the new me. Favorite track: Collapsing Skies.
    maestrolcf thumbnail
maestrolcf Brutality in an insidious way. Not as rough around the edges as Misery was, but it cuts deeper. Favorite track: Your Prayers Echo into Nothingness (feat. Matti Way).

Frank Hardlic This interpretation is close to impressionist piano works like Ravel or Debussy and death metallish grounded to expressionist piano works like Bartok or Rachmaninov. Closing with a work of the GOAT is the icing on the cake. Hot rotation. Favorite track: Maximalist Scream.
    Der Ohlsen thumbnail
Der Ohlsen "[...] an album that should easily speak not only to fans of Blanco's nonconform Extreme Metal, but also to friends of Keith Jarrett and congeneric Piano Jazz. Remarkably good!"
