  1. The Rime Of Memory
    by Panopticon
    supported by
    themetaladdict thumbnail
themetaladdict I discovered this album in 2023, around the time it came out. As my first exposure to Panopticon, it left enough of an impression on me to stick with the band and listen through the entire discography. Even after falling in love with other albums within Panopticon's discography, this album remains a favorite of mine. Few can match the balance of beauty and harshness like this album. Simply put: exceptional. Favorite track: Winter's Ghost.
    wsamsaal thumbnail
wsamsaal A very big album. Over an hour full of calm and intensity delivered in a way only Panopticon can. Masterfully put together and expertly executed. Very well done. Favorite track: Cedar Skeletons.
    pinkytheent thumbnail
pinkytheent This one hit hard. Amidst family suffering and going on trips into the threatened wilderness for peace, this record was made for me. A shattering mountainslide of wild emotion, while also having a clearer production and maybe the most cinematic feel yet. I echo others: metal and folk gels ever more with each record. Devastating, inspiring, chilling, man those chorus vocals – be prepared to get emotional. Austin, you knock it out of the park again and I will see you when FITM returns! Favorite track: Winter's Ghost.

    thekurtaction thumbnail
thekurtaction An unparalleled album that perfectly marries Death Metal with neo-classical melodicism, an endless stream of solos, and flamenco. The last proper song (In'el) is just too much for me though! Favorite track: Solus.
    Chris J thumbnail
Chris J You like solos? Fuck me we got solo's here. What an album, mindbending stuff and so engaging no matter where these goddamn wizards decided they wanted to go. My favorite Tech Death album. Favorite track: La Veuve et Le Martyr.
    berserkerowlbear thumbnail
berserkerowlbear this is the best metal album..amazing neoclassical tech death with fretless bass Favorite track: In'el.

    katie-s-music thumbnail
katie-s-music Stygian it is. «If this album is not played at my funeral», i can live with that. I'll enjoy it now. Hauntingly beautiful! Avoid listening to it at night though.
In Dante's Divine Comedy, he passes through the gate of Hell, which has an inscription "Abandon all hope, ye who enter." These cheerful words are worth adding here too.
How?? ...do you bear such a concept and mastery of orchestration in your early 20s?! Quebec's winters, duh. Epic saga, infinite journey 🖤
    ketzi thumbnail
ketzi Oppressive darkness at its best Favorite track: Stygian I: From Tumultuous Heavens… (Descended Forth The Ceaseless Darkness).
    FryTheMetalGuy thumbnail
FryTheMetalGuy As a Bell Witch fan, this band brings the same vibes on this album. Pure atmospheric funeral doom. Very dark and chilling. Favorite track: Stygian I: From Tumultuous Heavens… (Descended Forth The Ceaseless Darkness).

    David Metting thumbnail
David Metting If Cthulu cultists played death metal to summon their master, it would sound like this. I especially love the guitar leads and the overall groove. Favorite track: Tales Of The Majora Mythos Part 1.
    Ghuughra thumbnail
Ghuughra Came here to call out the Timeghoul-isms, looks like Camel beat me to it. Fantastic release, leave of the wet, dribbly intro noises and I'd call it a 10/10. Favorite track: Vecoiitn'aphnaat'smaala.
    YomaBarr thumbnail
YomaBarr OK, I know I'm seriously missing in the 2016 department, still I have no excuse. This is genre and life changing.
    "Cthulhu on vocals". How true.

    by Trhä

    porcelainheart- thumbnail
porcelainheart- The very first Trhä release, mimicking the earlier albums that sounded like dreary, somber low-fi atmo-black worship in the vein of Paysage d'Hiver and Coldworld, and synth usage that rivals Summoning. I don't think anyone knew where this project would go, what twists and turns it would take, after this album. What has been witnessed after this has been nothing short of incredible. Favorite track: Nëlhlica.
    zakukiyu thumbnail
zakukiyu This record is poured with so much melancholy, and i absolutely fucking love that. Last track almost made me cry. When the guitars and drums finally started to kick in, I felt so much weight in my heart and chest. What a majestic album, truly. As always; thank you, damian. Favorite track: Alandlhan Nítaq Ëlh.
    ruoska thumbnail
ruoska Atmospheric and beautiful. You feel in contact with the power of an endless imagination when you listen to this. It's art in its purest form Favorite track: Alandlhan Nítaq Ëlh.

Sam A meaningful black metal tribute to the ocean shore. I always love when black metal bands use violin and this album was literally made by a fiddle player! Favorite track: A Dream of Oaks.
    AwkwardComma thumbnail
AwkwardComma This album is ridiculously good. Perfect amount of heaviness and atmosphere, great melding of disparate sounds, my god the violin. So much to love. Favorite track: A Dream of Oaks.
    Dumb mmmn thumbnail
Dumb mmmn I looked at this album a few minutes ago.. and there was one vinyl left. Now, it's gone.. I blame Classy Lonnie Metal's 'Top 25 Of 2025' which just came out

hdude Highly energetic. Oscillating between euphoria and despair. Catchy as hell. An album full of bangers. Imagine Touché Amoré with less emo and more amore. Imagine your favourite Anime theme covered by a bunch of highly skilled metalheads on MDMA. Favorite track: In the City Where Cobalt Falls.
    benjaminjhwalter thumbnail
benjaminjhwalter Banger after banger. Melodicism. Screaming. Variety of moods. Neat! I recommend. Favorite track: Dogma.
    dstr thumbnail
dstr Beautiful cover art, and the album itself is phenomenal. There’s an upbeat J-pop/rock sound that unexpectedly works well with the band’s blackgaze sound. It’s a bit like what Deafheaven did with Ordinary Corrupt Human Love. Favorite track: Angel.

Vitalixy This entire album is a journey from beginning to end, every track a powerful story. But amongst all of them, no song even comes close to how powerful and emotional Épreuve is. Few other artists have managed to achieve this effect for me. For a song to speak to you more clearly than words can ever achieve. Truly one of the heaviest and most epic albums out there. Favorite track: Épreuve.
    vanechka thumbnail
vanechka ngl the best thing that happened to metal since maybe bronze age. one of my fav-ever records Favorite track: Faux-Amis.
    Frank Hardlic thumbnail
Frank Hardlic My first encounter with Mirar was Nik Nocturnal's YT channel.... The heaviest thing he ever heard.... Me too. This hybrid of classical rondo with the heaviest distortion djent/thall guitar sound plus the hybrid of dubstep- trap and death metal percussion is unique and masterful... and incredibly entertaining and awe inspiring Favorite track: Charnier.
