    supported by
    sharklostworld thumbnail
sharklostworld would've been really interesting if they decided to leave Bela Lugosi's Dead on the cutting room floor and just release the other more punkish tracks from this as their first release. i wonder how goth would have turned out in that alternate reality Favorite track: Some Faces.
    ignatiusabe thumbnail
ignatiusabe Garage Bauhaus... it's a win/win Favorite track: Some Faces.

  3. Gustav Holst: The Planets, Op. 32
    by London Symphony Orchestra
    supported by
    Seth thumbnail
Seth I'm very particular about how The Planets is performed, and while my favourite recording of it is Andre Previn's version, this London Symphony Orchestra recording is basically as good. The orchestration is perfect, the timing is spot on, and all the must-have moments are delivered with exactly the impact or mysticism required. Beautifully done.

The Planets is such an influential symphony that you hear echoes of it in music today. It's one of the greatest musical works, ever. Favorite track: The Planets, Op. 32: Neptune, the Mystic. Andante - Allegretto.

  1. Wake of a Nation (EP)
    by Zeal and Ardor
    supported by
    lookshylily thumbnail
lookshylily Never bought an album I've never heard before so fast in my entire life... "Don't shoot, it's a cell phone... *drum hit*" I know this was a 2020 album but it hits harder in 2025. Favorite track: Vigil.
    Frank Hardlic thumbnail
Frank Hardlic (Mar, 2025) So far, their most balanced release blending black metal vs. spiritual/soul. Unique and awe-inspiring. Favorite track: Trust No One.
    mistermunn thumbnail
mistermunn If there ever was a timely album to sum up the United States in 2020, this is it. Elements of black metal, hymnals, call-and-response, sampled news audio, and Manuel's amazing voice come together to form a beautifully tortured sound.

The term 'avant-garde' is rightfully earned with every moment of this EP. Favorite track: Trust No One.

Grimmrobe Despite the odds being throughly against them, Z&A has found a way to meld slave music with black metal to surprising effect.

An acquired taste, yes. But one well worth acquiring. Favorite track: Servants.
    ipuke thumbnail
ipuke I heard this album years ago. When Firewake came out, I went back and listened to their self-titled and then this and I was blown away to realize I already knew it. Favorite track: Row Row.
    MarshMelody thumbnail
MarshMelody this is one of my personal favorites. it's incredibly creative musically, and an excellent concept album. there are barn-burners, there are really heady and emotional moments--and I even love the interludes! Favorite track: Ship On Fire.

Sven B. Schreiber (sbs) This great artist has escaped my attention until recently, when I heard him on the Russian Radio Caprice "Chamber Pop" channel, which is an endless source of inspiration. Owen Pallett's "baroque" kind of songwriting is one of the things that make me real happy, and I'm sure to buy more of his works later.
    Myles Coyne thumbnail
Myles Coyne Perfect soundtrack for fans of fantasy and anime Favorite track: Oh Heartland, Up Yours!.

    jose-maturana thumbnail
jose-maturana No doubt a stunning accomplishment from Philip Glass, but it's marred by an inferior recording/mastering when compared to the 1983 (truncated) edition. What happened here? The bass is now anaemic and dynamics are squished. Favorite track: Pruitt Igoe.
    jemiahj thumbnail
jemiahj A banger lo these 40 years, Glass's maybe most famous composition astonishes, punishes, and exalts. Essential cultural landmark. Favorite track: The Grid.
    FallenAngel thumbnail
FallenAngel Essential and more than ever relevant.

“The title KOYAANISQATSI is a Hopi Indian word meaning life out of balance. Created between 1975 and 1982, the film is an apocalyptic vision of the collision of two different worlds -- urban life and technology versus the environment.”
