tim_the_curator Subbygroove is my all-time favorite work from MOON and the best night-driving music ever produced. Sounds like madness and sickness under the flashing-by of streetlights long after dark. The bonus track, “New Mexico, 1977” is disturbing and experimental (like MOON)— nearly six minutes of an interview with a woman who was witness to a horrible accident. Underscoring the interview audio is the imbalanced, insistent, obsessive pulse of a MOON beat. The end hits like…well, like an automobile.

DukeofBreakfast Serene, austere, masterly. The sound of remembering someone, or half-remembering. The quiet distance, the edge of thought. The last of the things we never quite fully understood.

    This is good. Buy it.

maxlphillips This feels like being forced to listen to the album of the year through a thin, muffling film. The compositional beauty is consistently and pervasively mind-blowing – never letting go of my ever-pleased attention – but the recording quality almost castrates it. Despite that, I came out of this thoroughly harrowed; unrelentingly pummelled with gorgeousness to the point of complete cleansing and reinvigoration. Favorite track: Ghost Eyes in the Fire Light.

    Nocturnal Egg (Jordan) thumbnail
Favorite track: Eternal return.

rasmodeus Such a good album. It's synthy and dark and seems to have an overall theme about loss and change, I just wish I had known of them earlier. Favorite track: Southern Gothic.
    palehorse666 thumbnail
palehorse666 one wouldn't expect "grand" or "epic" to be synonymous with synthpop, but this is as much of the grandest scope and a sweeping epic as an album of this genre could be. with commercialism also comes solid production, catchy melodies, dark themes, and lyrical depth. Ulver is a group I need to delve deeper into, but this is an incredibly good start. Favorite track: Southern Gothic.
    RJ thumbnail
RJ Has there been a band with such a fantastic musical voyage as Ulver? A truly dynamic release in an already stellar catalogue. Dark synth pop for the masses with historical influences. Highly, highly recommended. 9/10 Favorite track: So Falls the World.

neel1988 An epic journey through a plethora of drones but never losing rhythm. A mesmerizing experience from start to end. Ulver have shown that they can do drone well and have crafted beautiful waves of this sonic art. Favorite track: Blood, Fire, Woods, Diamonds.
    Nocturnal Egg (Jordan) thumbnail

Favorite track: Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.

    LLK thumbnail
LLK No one manages to revive the 80s dark pop melancholy and make it so fresh and contemporary like Ulver. Apocalyptic lyrics never sounded dancier. Favorite track: Machine Guns and Peacock Feathers.
