  1. Sidera
    by Miserere Luminis

    Frosty Bear thumbnail
Frosty Bear What an absolutely gorgeous, amazing album. Beautiful and emotionally heavy while being uplifting. Favorite track: Les fleurs de l’exil.
    Drew Music thumbnail
Drew Music Genuinely atmospheric, top notch post-black metal without a weak or wasted moment to be heard. Immersive, crushing and somehow also inspiring, straight to the top of the AotY contender list. Favorite track: Aux bras des vagues & des vomissures.
    Nocturnal Egg (Jordan) thumbnail

Darknight Fantastic black metal of the heaviest order all the way from Italy, these four tracks could easily crush us all!!🤘 Favorite track: Lower Nexus.
    YomaBarr thumbnail
YomaBarr The emotional load of this is heavy like this music itself - and yet, stuff's highly listenable and will be returned to. Lyrics? Please?

Shoutout to the sound engineers, too, particularly to the guy who dealt with bass!

    Nocturnal Egg (Jordan) thumbnail
Favorite track: Babydoctor.
    da9ve thumbnail
da9ve My introduction to SGM was seeing them live (July 20, 2003, Indianapolis). The show opened with A Hymn to the Morning Star > The Donkey-Headed Adversary of Humanity Opens the Discussion, with the entire band in realistic full-headed animal masks. I was a convert before the spiky guitar even kicked in. This album, when it finally came out, got me through the first couple years of the second GWB administration; I'd've gone 'round the bend otherwise. Necessary, powerful stuff. Favorite track: The Donkey-Headed Adversary of Humanity Opens the Discussion.

    kbralmp4 thumbnail
kbralmp4 I made a point of buying the album in pre-order; in fact, it's the first time I've ever bought an album in pre-order. I love this band.

    Urso X thumbnail
Urso X The best cosmic atmospheric bm I’ve heard since Almyrkvi’s Umbra (back in the Before Times). Utterly menacing with seething, magmatic vocals and (literally/figuratively) stellar production. Outstanding!!!

Edit — The more I listen, the more this gem is moving up the list…

PS — Can we ask where the hell is everyone without sounding mean? Even considering the split listing with Godz ov War, the neglect of this is bordering on criminal. Favorite track: The Feeding Grounds.
    YomaBarr thumbnail
    YomaBarr Second!

Just when I spent all my money at the garden center SUCH AN ALBUM had to come out. Alright, dry bread till the end of the month, but I couldn't live without this any longer.
Beware, folks - it's malevolent. This is not a friendly universe.

Goes totally great with Deamonolith. Their universe hates you too.
Works with Voidescent and Deathless Void as well, and in my book this is like the highest praise. Who are you, Apparition? WHAT are you?
    bmurator thumbnail
bmurator Polish Atmospheric Black Metal. A one man, Apparition, project. Again, one track did it & I feel there is something novel & exciting here... :) Looking forward to it! Recommended!

Edit: I am listening to this via the Godz ov War page as they released one day early & I *love* it! Genius constructions & genius everything... :) Plus it is the first full length & I am *so* much looking forward to more already! Highly recommended!!!

    ill_will7 thumbnail
ill_will7 Good stuff. Great driving music. Favorite track: Gereon - Initiation.
    bmurator thumbnail
bmurator Soundtrack for an action game... :) Very far from my usual & I shall not pretend I know anything else about it... The repetitive nature of the songs helps me chase away certain insidious & sometimes existential thoughts that I would far prefer not to have... :) No faves! Recommended!

Kelvin (Navajo/Diné) Imagine if the Star Wars alien band in the Tatooine bar played crushing atmospheric death doom. Favorite track: Phlegraean Fields.
    Dan Curhan thumbnail
Dan Curhan Filthy AND progressive?? You've got my attention. This album has some of the most thoughtful and mature songwriting I've heard in a long time - excellent attention to detail, and a satisfying arc. Very, very good.
    Chimplord thumbnail
Chimplord I LOVED Barishi and was crushed when they broke up. I was beyond stoked when I found out about this project.
This is amazing start to finish.
    Album of the year????
