  3. Something to Cry About
    by lydia roberts
    supported by
    ghosttropics thumbnail
ghosttropics If lydia's previous album Quitters felt like being held, then Something to Cry About is more akin to the feeling of being consumed; a church organ fed to a wood chipper, the splinters fed to a blast furnace. While the end results feel similar - a state of elevated bliss, all cobwebs scoured from the mind - the silken path to that destination is now littered with bits of broken glass and bone fragments.
    TheMoonHangs thumbnail
TheMoonHangs To my ears, 'Something to Cry About' is a more outright antagonistic record than its predecessor. These passages of blistering noise are often unceasing, packed with full-bodied hisses and snarls, between a pair of headphones they set away a white hot simmer behind your eyes. In its most violent moments, the peaks and bursts of sheer sound call to mind the gleam of a newly sharpened knife. A rage-spun hymnal I am sure I'll come to revisit many times.

zirtonic Big shout out to grindcore drummers. These dudes could be making decent money playing jazz clubs and giving lessons but they decided to use their talents to play some of the dumbest shit on the planet. Favorite track: Cooked At Conception.

    kyle_y_scherzer thumbnail
kyle_y_scherzer Probably the most beautiful and comforting album by her. I love it so much and come back to it often when I feel down. This is what I adore about Chubby Wolf's music the most. 💗 Favorite track: Phantasmagoria Of Nothingness (Prey To Our Emotions).

    Sean thumbnail
Sean Their most noisy droning industrial work while simultaneously being one of the most melodic vocal albums of their excellent discography. There's beauty and heart in the overwhelming wall of feedbacking sounds. And, as always, the lyrics are thoughtful, moving, and remind us of our common humanity. This might be the loudest and softest BIG BRAVE have been. I love it and then some. Favorite track: an uttering of antipathy.
    fiberglasspeacock thumbnail
fiberglasspeacock A gargantuan sonic leviathan. Orchestration and soundscapes that crash and batter, performances and lyrics that cut and pierce. Utterly devestating. This consumes me in a way no piece of music ever has. Favorite track: a shape of shame.

Jesse I love emo, but it can sometimes take itself way too seriously about topics that are actually so light as to be ridiculous (take Heart Tattoo by Joyce Manor). The Hotelier, especially on this album, is a serious exploration of serious topics. But not only that, it’s done well, it sounds good, it’s catchy and memorable and I find myself unable to stay away from these songs for too long. Favorite track: Two Deliverances.
    popcorntheskunk thumbnail
popcorntheskunk This album is soooo pretty and so freakin good!! Favorite track: Soft Animal.
    Beans thumbnail
Beans actually crazy the level of maturity this album exudes compared to their prior works. Favorite track: You In This Light.
