My great-grandmother lived a life that she did not choose but chose to end, but not before ensuring her daughter was educated and independent in a society that scorns women with freedom of thought. The self-possession I have today is a gift that emerged from matrilineal sacrifice.
Hand of Thought connects me to this line of complicated, misunderstood, real women. I hope I can continue their lives through my own life’s embodiment. Thank you Sanaya Ardeshir for this profoundly connective work.
