    maxlphillips RATING: 9.1/10 (9.10)

With a newly refined emphasis on melody, Godspeed’s sixth studio album – whilst being slightly more sonically reserved than previous releases – offers an experience with far more structural cohesion than the releases post-hiatus up until this point. Whilst it’s not their best, this is easily Godspeed’s most overhated project.

BEST SONG: Anthem For No State, Pt. III
WORST SONG: none Favorite track: Anthem For No State, Pt. III.
    KosmikArtz thumbnail
KosmikArtz All the three parts of this song are great on their own, but listening them together builds up an otherwordly experience that reaches its climax on this third part. One of the best works of GY!BE in my opinion. Favorite track: Bosses Hang, Pt. III.
    Valo thumbnail
Valo Some of the most beautiful electronic music out there. This album means a lot to me, in some inexplicable way. Favorite track: Anthem For No State, Pt. I.

    by Drew McDowall
    supported by
    Michael Bird thumbnail
Michael Bird Gorgeous work. Drew’s constant evolution as an artist remains inspiring and thrilling to track. That I have been following him for 30 years and still find his latest work essential and surprising would be unbelievable were it not for the depth and quality of his catalog. Favorite track: A Dream of a Cartographic Membrane Dissolves.

Dawid Kowalski Well, Iron Sight combines excellent atmospherics with a particularly unsettling atmosphere and aggressive vocals which do not bring cliche metal or power electronics to mind. That plus the dreamy synth backdrop make me want to listen to this album over and over again.

Tango Mango Glorious soaring almost choral music.
    Ego Broken thumbnail
Ego Broken Beautiful piece, living up to the expectations. The way it progresses, slowly unfolding its many different layers and details, is delightful, and the overall sound is pure as silk, as usual with Andrea's works. Excellent!
The philosophical essay in the liner notes is also superb and reinforces the listening experience by explaining the concept behind the title of the piece.
    d york thumbnail
d york I love the calm, organic and introspective feel of this long-form track. It is very much needed at this moment in time. ♥️

Favorite track: 𝓿𝓲𝓰𝓵𝓳𝓸𝓼.

    sashavonkarl74 H: "Amicia, bee people!"
A: "Don't worry Hugo, these people are nice".

Jokes aside (I could not resist, I love "The Plague Tales" game), this is a local band that should be buzzing around a lot more often! When is your next gig at Valhalla?

Edit: the 12.10. gig at Valhalla was top notch! Thanks guys!! Favorite track: 𝓿𝓲𝓰𝓵𝓳𝓸𝓼.
    David Fischer thumbnail
David Fischer Bees are, one could argue, the elixir vitae of nature. Their importance can hardly be overstated and it is shocking how much mankind still feels the need to conquer them. Vigljós play raw, beautiful B-lack metal lyrically examining the life of bees. That's right, the B is for bees! There's a high degree of atmosphere throughout Tome I, mournful and almost tragic – yet life-affirming, ever-blooming, and busy. Far from being gimmicky, this is a hive ov stellar melodies and swarming intensity! Favorite track: 𝓼𝔀𝓮𝓮𝓽 𝓼𝓽𝓲𝓷𝓰𝓼.

Dalton McCain Whether you end up loving the album or hating it after hearing it. One thing is for sure, you will never forget this album

Without a doubt, one of the most devastating albums I've ever heard. It's not often that I'm unable to sit through an entire album without needing to take a break because of it being so emotional, but this is one of those rare records.

Devastating, Depressing, Terrifying, are three words that encapsulate this album imo. Favorite track: LIVING DEATH.

Lavinie Cloutier En tant que fille du nord au Québec, même si je ne comprend pas les paroles, la musique me parle.
    thomasw_ thumbnail
thomasw_ No less violent than any other Ildjarn release, & thus is wholly alienating in what is left unsaid. This was an early experiment in making ambient noise as a cloak for black metal. Pauses punctuate dynamic shifts, indeterminate notes & sounds reduce passages of randomized notes in tight looping constructions adapted to basic rhythms. The vocals texturally complement the song structures, slipping in & out of focus, as if to mimic the breathing of a creature trapped in the distant forest. Favorite track: Skogens Hatefulle Skapning.

moorschwule I loved this demo, it's really well done and there is something in the vocals and the lead melodies that really deliver a sense of melancholy. Favorite track: The mourning spirit.
    𝕽𝖔𝖓𝖓𝖎𝖊 𝕿𝖍𝖊 𝕳𝖔𝖗𝖓𝖊𝖉 thumbnail
𝕽𝖔𝖓𝖓𝖎𝖊 𝕿𝖍𝖊 𝕳𝖔𝖗𝖓𝖊𝖉 From the depths of an abandoned, filthy and forgotten castle, haunting voices could be heard : Zurgr plays a Raw and Atmospheric Black Metal, in mid-tempo, successfully fitting into the codes of the 90s.
    bmurator thumbnail
bmurator Italian Raw Atmospheric Black Metal. This is raw as hell! To the extent that it is almost a new sort of vocal style... :) There some very nice melodies which really bring out those vocals! A very unique demo & I hope there will be more as I am incredibly curious where this project will go next. Grazie mille Canti Eretici! Recommended! Favorite track: The lost scepter of sorcery.

    activa44 thumbnail
activa44 Black metal punk from Paris of clear Ildjarn descent, but with some melancholic post-punk influences thrown in for good measure. Its good riffs are perfectly backed by cool simplistic drum beats!

The sound is dirty and raw, even though you can hear every instrument very clearly.
The vocal delivery is visceral and deranged. Appropriately so.

I particularly enjoy the more violent (/less melancholic) songs! Favorite track: Ta viande.
    Nocturnal Egg (Jordan) thumbnail
