    camilrice thumbnail
camilrice this is the most beautiful album I’ve ever experienced. Every song is just as impactful as the last. The words are put together like a painting, and Segarra’s voice lends perfectly to folk. I recommend it to every music lover I meet, and wish I could hear it for the first time again. Favorite track: Blue Ridge Mountain.

    V. Farris thumbnail
    V. Farris Wild and Clear and Blue is my favorite album in a long time. Musically, the vocals and instrumentals are lovely. Thematically, the focus on nature, place, and tradition is compelling. I couldn't make it to any of the concerts, so I'm looking forward to the upcoming album of live performances.

(I enjoy the group so much that I accidentally bought three copies of the studio album from different vendors so I wouldn't miss it. Oops! Good gifts, but I'm being more careful with this one.)

Joseph Karl I've had a mad crush on Natalie Haas's music from the moment I first heard it. To hear both sisters playing together - well, it's a no brainer! If you enjoy folk cello, for want of a better term, just buy this. You won't reget it :-)
    kinfan thumbnail
kinfan This is so exciting, each track changing direction, the constant being the extreme quality of writing and performing. Hope they have lots of arguments, otherwise being this good together is really annoying for us mere mortals 😊
    fajpunk thumbnail
fajpunk This is SO satisfying to listen to, I can't stop. The tunes are all great and the playing is amazing and full of personality. I get the "Skip, Hop and Wobble" feels from this. It's just fantastic.

    Michael La Guardia thumbnail
Michael La Guardia What a beautiful gift we've been given with this collection. Not only do we get to hear an impressive setting of some of the most profound music ever written, but Chris Thile's personality shines through in every piece. Thank you, thank you for sharing this with us.
    exrubato thumbnail
exrubato I saw Chris play at the Schermerhorn Auditorium in Nashville about a decade ago. It’s still one of the finest concerts I’ve attended. Hearing the life he breathes into Bach’s music has deepened my love of the composer, and the mandolin. Neither would be possible without his interpretation and facility. And those aspects inspire me too.

    SW Hannan thumbnail
SW Hannan Maybe the title influenced my reaction, but this album feels like being underwater. Not drowning, but floating, safe, alert, and at peace, while still in awe of the immensity of the ocean's scale.

jwbstuhr I typically don't prefer piano renderings of Bach, but the execution here is incredible, naturally incorporating the piano's capacity for dynamic articulation. Favorite track: Variatio 30 a 1 Clav. Quodlibet.
    scott thumbnail
scott An absolute delight; Bach is surely smiling in his grave.
    drawreadhear thumbnail
drawreadhear yes, Virginia, there is Bach after Gould. as a long time fan of Glenn Gould. his early & late interpretations of the G.V. are unique, wonderful but not matchless. there are many good interpretations.

Ishazaka's interpretations are lively, crisp with beautiful flow and lovely tempi, never draggy nor speed racing but hardly dull uniform. i am decidedly not a musician nor musicologist. that said, to my purely, yet experienced listener's ear this is a singular addition to the overstuffed market
