George O'Quinn pure hypnotic bliss Favorite track: Anthem For No State, Pt. III.
    Harold N’Hiver thumbnail
Harold N’Hiver This record is absolutely brilliant, like pretty much everything in Godspeed’s discography.

Godspeed will destroy kapitalism, in the end. Don’t doubt it for a second.

    maxlphillips RATING: 9.1/10 (9.10)

With a newly refined emphasis on melody, Godspeed’s sixth studio album – whilst being slightly more sonically reserved than previous releases – offers an experience with far more structural cohesion than the releases post-hiatus up until this point. Whilst it’s not their best, this is easily Godspeed’s most overhated project.

BEST SONG: Anthem For No State, Pt. III
WORST SONG: none Favorite track: Anthem For No State, Pt. III.

    thewillim thumbnail
thewillim I used to think this album was okay at best, one of the weaker releases in GY!BE's discog.
I was wrong. It is peak. Favorite track: “GOVERNMENT CAME” (9980.0kHz 3617.1kHz 4521.0 kHz) / Cliffs Gaze / cliffs’ gaze at empty waters’ rise / ASHES TO SEA or NEARER TO THEE.
    pwlsie thumbnail
pwlsie perfect texture and rhythm <3 Favorite track: A Military Alphabet (five eyes all blind) (4521.0kHz 6730.0kHz 4109.09kHz) / Job’s Lament / First of the Last Glaciers / where we break how we shine (ROCKETS FOR MARY).
    maxlphillips thumbnail
    maxlphillips RATING: 9.2/10 (9.20)

A more pointed political statement than the last few albums – addressing government surveillance and the dichotomy between the people and the state – and it is combined with the beauty of escalating, heavenly sonic ambition to form an acutely atmospheric and emotional record.

BEST SONG: where we break how we shine (ROCKETS FOR MARY)
WORST SONG: none Favorite track: A Military Alphabet (five eyes all blind) (4521.0kHz 6730.0kHz 4109.09kHz) / Job’s Lament / First of the Last Glaciers / where we break how we shine (ROCKETS FOR MARY).

    Harold N’Hiver thumbnail
Harold N’Hiver throw down your money, and your guns.

find your rewards over into the ravine.

    jump, my children, jump!

look up into the eyes of the unconscious giver of light, for his time has come to reap what he has sown.

    failing, falling empire.
    maxlphillips thumbnail
    maxlphillips RATING: 8.6/10 (8.58)

This LP is structured as a single, continuous piece of music – and although the record’s contents doesn’t push the line very far comparative to the experimentation of some previous albums, the innate beauty of Godspeed’s brand of post-rock prevents me from punishing it too much.

BEST SONG: Piss Crowns Are Trebled
WORST SONG: Lambs’ Breath Favorite track: Piss Crowns Are Trebled.
    Ryan Johanson thumbnail
Ryan Johanson Overall I'd rank this as a mid-tier Godspeed album, but God(speed), that finale is one of the greatest things they've ever made. Favorite track: Piss Crowns Are Trebled.
