Phyl Lobius ULTHA waren ja schon immer etwas Besonderes. Das neue Album macht da keine Ausnahme: neben herrlichsten Black-Metal-Eruptionen gibt es diesmal Ambient-, Krautrock- und Gothic-Ausflüge, die zusammen seltsamerweise ein ziemlich kohärentes Bild ergeben. Das kann nicht jede Band, ULTHA kriegen die gefühlt sieben Spagate aber mühelos hin und präsentieren mit A LIGHT SO DIM ein echt kurzweiliges Album, das ich nicht so schnell zur Seite legen werde. Favorite track: Love As We're Falling Down.

Obsidian One Calling it now — Die Auslöschung will be one of my top ten tracks of 2026. I'm always searching Bandcamp for metal that pushes beyond the familiar, and this opening track delivers. The 50-second passage starting at 1:23 is the highlight. The layering of male and female vocal styles over the melodic guitar riffs and intense drumming is masterful. The female vocals at 3:48 are unexpected, yet they fit within the atmosphere. Avant-garde post-metal at its finest. Favorite track: Die Auslöschung.
