  1. Alienation Manifesto
    by THANATOTHERION
    supported by
    gwcon2006 thumbnail
gwcon2006 Excellent release. The cover art is Fantastic and caught my attention. Glad I gave it a spin. Thanks for the METAL Thanatotherion!
    Lorenzo thumbnail
Lorenzo Bizarre and creative thrash / 90s black metal infected with a progressive edge in a off-kilter way. Meeting at an intersection somewhere between Emporer, Voivod, and Absu but not quite meeting any of those bands neatly, Alienation Manifesto is an aptly titled album of vicious guitars, scathing vocals, and weirdo flourishes pulling in a cold 'sci-fi' sound.
    TheEliteExtremophile thumbnail
TheEliteExtremophile Both this act and Ulthar feature blistering cosmic blackened death metal, but Thanatotherion features lusher soundscapes supported by synthesizers.

    maoltod thumbnail
maoltod Harp and lap-steel guitar are quite the combination. Really interesting color palette for a laid-back, library quartet.

I wish there were another couple tracks. Nothing I’ve heard sounds quite like this. I love it.

WHO is the steel guitar player, btw?

  5. Dimension Of Deviant Clusters
    by UNIVERSALLY ESTRANGED
    supported by
    Nuclear Girl thumbnail
Nuclear Girl Even better than the debut! Dimension of Deviant Clusters is more sickly, more fractious, yet also feels more refined and capable as a singulat work of art. Favorite track: Universally Estranged.
    Lorenzo thumbnail
Lorenzo Weird as(s) shit death metal that takes the sound of the genre and simply throws it adrift in favour of the cosmic everything. Blending a healthy amount of electronic elements, UE deliver a baffling album. Multiple pacings wash over one another in a sickly ooze, coming together in a bizarrely formless yet wholly realized way.

Taking an old-school vibe but ensuring it is somehow both aloof and linear in delivery is a fair description of it. The guitars and vocals are simply astounding

    Salami Dick Death thumbnail
Salami Dick Death As a fan of Cosmic DM I’ve surmised the true originators of the genre are Atheist. Being a massive fan of the early Florida Death Metal scene it never really struck me until this album. Timeghoul, Blood Incantation and Tomb Mold been doin cool stuff for years. But never has an album drawn a straighter line back to its forebears than this. Lesser known, yet taking the lead with a new classic in the canon. An absolute must own.
    kaamos666 thumbnail
kaamos666 Amazing music! Reminds me in its intrumental parts of Exivious. Nice bass by the way. Favorite track: (Petrified in the) Hypogean Gaol.
    Jamie Platt thumbnail
Jamie Platt Masterful stuff coming from Cryptic Shift, dammit, if they didn't blow my mind and send me through the cosmos!!

    toad thumbnail
toad Cadavaric Fumes have written a love letter to the dark and moody OSDM classics with this album. You can hear the direct influence from Scream Bloody Gore, Spiritual Healing, Altars, Blessed Are the Sick, and more. What a note to end their discography on. Bravo Cadavaric Fumes. You have made something truly special. Favorite track: Voidgazers.
    deathevokation666 thumbnail
deathevokation666 Dark 'n' immersive. Excellent riffs, solos, and abysmal melodies compliment powerful rhythms 'n' morbid vocals. CD arrived in 17 days from Sweden to Iowa, USA. Quality modern death metal worth owning!
    Herman thumbnail
Herman This is going to be an incredible swan song for an amazing band.
Edit: It is. Favorite track: Voidgazers.

skoppum Came to hear the Mehldau/Thile collaboration, Colorbars, but went back and started from the beginning. Listened to this unfolding musical story from start to finish. Like reading good literature. Sophisticated, beautiful, concluding in a contagious groove. Favorite track: Ride into the Sun: Conclusion.
    Daniel Karrer thumbnail
Daniel Karrer this is absolute genious.
    Mathias Lohse thumbnail
Mathias Lohse This is a fantastic mix of different styles: orchestral, rock, classical, folk. Everybody Cares, Everybody Understands strongly reminds me of the Beatles. I would love to hear more of it. Favorite track: Everybody Cares, Everybody Understands.
    counselour thumbnail
counselour I've been playing Elliot Smith in various forms since I heard Between the Bars years ago. I never thought Mr. Mehldau would cover him -- but I didn't know that he actually PLAYED with him. So, I'm a fool. In any case, it is great to hear a master play what I believe is some the most heartfelt music, albeit dark, I've ever heard. I'm a recovering alcoholic and this is some of the most touching music I'll ever experience.

Giles I was lucky to see these three live at Winter Jazzfest and I really love having the record to go with that wonderful set. The range of this band is amazing - they can all blast off into the highest realms of virtuosity but also know how to keep it simple when that's all that's needed. Full of catchy grooves and melodies as well as incredible complexities thrown off like they're nothing, the rhythm on this record is astonishing
