  1. The God Machine
    by Blind Guardian

    Erik Gordier thumbnail
Erik Gordier A return to form for Guardian. Much heavier than anything they've done in a while. Favorite track: Deliver Us From Evil.
    yelworK thumbnail
yelworK they drop ALL the pretense and just get back to kicking power metal ass...as it should be.
    Henrik Thøgersen thumbnail
Henrik Thøgersen Putting out albums for 25 years and then dropping one this potent, radiating raw energy, brimming with inspired ideas, and utterly overflowing with memorable songs is beyond amazing. It’s a damn triumph! Favorite track: Deliver Us From Evil.

    palehorse666 thumbnail
palehorse666 simultaneously beautiful and devastating in its tone and themes, but also its vocal performances and instrumentation. Favorite track: The Poet's Ballet.
    sashavonkarl74 thumbnail
sashavonkarl74 I did not think that GAEREA could top "Unsettling Whispers" but I am proven wrong today, for this album is an Opus Magnum, and they DID IT!!!

Edit: one of the most played albums of 2024 in my BC app, and definitely top-10 nominee for AOTY!! Favorite track: Kingdom of Thorns.
    acaDamien thumbnail
acaDamien From the uplifting vocal harmonies on the Poet's Ballad and then driving right into the harsh vocals, the guitars coupled with the blistering beats of the drums this is an enjoyable and unbelievable listen all the way through. Favorite track: Wilted Flower.

    by Ragana
    supported by
    Sam thumbnail
Sam The way Maria and Noel can trade off playing drums, guitar, and vocals between songs while maintaining emotional intensity is really cool. Ragana is one of the most important bands in the black metal/doom space. Favorite track: Winter's Light Pt. 2.

Michael Finding uniquely beautiful music like this is one of the best things about all of life, and one of the reasons I am still here. These are stunning songs Favorite track: midnight june room.
    Melancholia_ thumbnail
Melancholia_ The perfect soundtrack for late summer nights. The build up at 12:40 on Midnight june room is breathtaking. Favorite track: midnight june room.
    Nocturnal Egg (Jordan) thumbnail
Magique ! Favorite track: shimmer.

    Need Need

    indraft thumbnail
indraft unapologetic, loud, and just what we need. THIS is how you heal a tortured heart. Favorite track: Beg.
    mikhel thumbnail
mikhel Dynamic music with fantastic lyrics sung with such power
    MUZieve thumbnail
MUZieve There’s still that balance between soft-anxious moments and sudden explosions. But the anxiety feels gentler now, and the explosions have lost some of their force. Letter to Self was an instant coup de foudre: I immediately felt the urge to listen to the whole thing through, over and over. All this over has tracks that might take more time to grow on me, or maybe they won’t. Time will tell. Favorite track: Need.

caffeinatedmetalhead What do you get when you combine the solemn, dirgelike beauty of Bell Witch and the calm, haunting melodies of Aerial Ruin? A masterpiece. I hope to one day see more from this collaborative effort or witness it live. Favorite track: The Bastard Wind.

  5. Observance
    by Primitive Man
    featured track 00:00/00:00
    Social Contract Social Contract
    supported by
    Unhinderedbytalent thumbnail
Unhinderedbytalent There is a sense that Observance has lots more to it that I could describe but, in the end, there is no getting away from how gloriously bleak it is. Although I would hazard a guess that for some this barrage of hopelessness would be too much, I doubt anyone familiar with PM is coming to this record expecting spade after spade of positivity. Favorite track: Natural Law.
    justintylerhughes thumbnail
justintylerhughes Modern masterpiece of atmospheric death sludge
    Dan Hébert thumbnail
Dan Hébert Heavier than an M1 Abrams rolling over your foot. Fuck me, this is oppressive. Then again, it's Primitive Man so I knew what I was getting myself into. Favorite track: Iron Sights.
