Seriously, being a huge fan of Finnish death metal, this is what hooked me immediately. Chunky riffs, great depth and the guttural vocals à la Sepulchral Curse, what more do you need?

thekurtaction Similar to Blood Incantation's Hidden History, this album marks the transition to their mature crossover sound without yet actually stepping outside of the Death Metal vocabulary. Favorite track: Beg For Life.

Archmage Orladin The whole album rips...but my GOD the solo on this song...The pinch harmonic at the end...This is the kind of song that makes you get really into it - making faces and head banging with intensity - even in socially awkward and inappropriate settings. It just takes over. Favorite track: Heat Death.

Kris Faust Immolation is synonymous with consistency, technical prowess, ferocity, and monumental songwriting. Descent is no exception. Real contender for album of the year.

eManRenaissanc My favorite band, still thriving 40 years in. There's no one else like 'em. Just ordered the vinyl and had to buy the BC version too, of course.

KenshirO Crushingly heavy, oppressive and filled with a dark epic sound that many death metal bands could never hope to achieve. Tops even Acts Of God. Fantastic production and some of their best work ever. I recommend listening to it with a pair of Heavys 🎧 on. It will make your testicles explode Favorite track: Attrition.

North East Wizard Tyrant (NEWT) The best Volcandra album to date, and one of the best extreme metal albums of 2026. It's incredibly impressive to hear what a gamut of styles within the extreme metal and progressive metal spectrums this album manages to cover while still sounding cohesive and invigorating. Every song has such a clear sonic identity, yet they all come together to form a beautiful "whole". Brilliant songwriting, performances, and production. Everything about this album absolutely crackles and shines vibrantly. Favorite track: The Bestial Oath.

Christoph Wagner Volcandra are back! Snarly melodic black/death with some thrash elements. This is just as good as The Way of Ancients was. Potential AotY lister!

musichog555 Volcandra have delivered a worthy follow up to their sophomore release, The Way of Ancients. The album begins with the title track, which pulls you in and takes you on quite a fun and punchy journey. Love the mix of black, death, thrash, and progressive elements that this band can seamlessly mend together without forcing either element to overtake the other. Lots of "bite" in their sound which is awesome! Favorite track: Venom Marsh Enchantress.

Einar’s “16” was my favorite release of 2023, Leprous’ “Melodies of Atonement” my fav of 2024, and the recent live Leprous album topped my 2025 rankings, so OF COURSE I’m preordering this blindly.

I don't think I know of anything like It. It is so coherent and succeeds at being a very cinematic orchestral album.
That goês for thé songs without orchestra too. They are still written to Fit this great concept.

Thé vocales are crazy good, too, of course.
