  1. Liminality / Dream State Return
    by Elder
    supported by
    Tom Colquhoun thumbnail
Tom Colquhoun This double ep opens with a crushing and cinematic epic of prog/psych to stir the soul, but holy shit Dream State Return is the standout here, taking Elder to uncharted territory and just building so much energy between the synths, drums and distorted riffs that you can feel the G-force.
From what's been released from Through Zero so far, this ep feels like a huge milestone in the band's evolution.

Can we talk about the gorgeous covert art too? The legacy of Roger Dean <3 Favorite track: Dream State Return.
    TheEliteExtremophile thumbnail
TheEliteExtremophile “Dream State Return” is the more interesting piece here. It’s more overtly progressive and features influences from early proto-electronic acts like Tangerine Dream, alongside metallic riffs.

    joanofarch thumbnail
joanofarch They simply know how to write sings that combine amazing, heavy riffs with harmonies full of tension and atmospheric elements. And they craft buildups that get your heartrate up like nothing else.
Some of the songs feel inspired by bands like Haken with complex rhythmicality. I love everything about that album. Favorite track: Sight Unseen.
    Holger Rudolph thumbnail
Holger Rudolph Awesome album. I wasn't sure, if Elder would return to the incredible song writing of the past AND keep getting more progressive. Well, they did. Favorite track: Strata.

Brian Parker The last one there was for me to buy. You know, it finally hit me what a Krautrock motorik influence I hear. It’s like a heavy version of Neu! sometimes.

    Mbourgon thumbnail
Mbourgon I got this because of the link to Elder, but this is its own beast, brethren to Elder with tons of dark proggy psychedelia, but with even more synth & tron, and all instrumental. Favorite track: The Reflecting Pool.
