  1. Speaking to the Body

    GeN2Mo thumbnail
GeN2Mo Maybe I'm exaggerating, yet this is the first album for me in ages that exudes this "Left To Our Own Devices"-feel. This proficiency at replicating late 80s Pop in combination with sincerity and urgency that results in songs that aren't just excelent retrowave but also probably some of the best synthpop you can listen to, full stop.
    c5 thumbnail
c5 I'd been looking forward to this album and it's exceeded my expectations. Favorite track: Perpetual Care.
    Discordia thumbnail
Discordia Masterful throwback to 1983. Talk Talk meets Toni Basil in a dark alley. Favorite track: One Star One Body.

    by Lena Raine

    bandfan25 thumbnail
bandfan25 Dreamy and atmospheric and moody in that weirdly specific early-2000s nostalgic-futuristic sort of way -- a lovely, groovy track!
    T. J. W. Wagner thumbnail
    T. J. W. Wagner From the soft atmospheric intro to the synth base later on, the track reminds me of something you would hear in a sci-fi visual novel from the early to mid-2000s. Takes me back in all the right ways.

    by Manchester String Quartet
    supported by
    Carsten Pieper thumbnail
Carsten Pieper Who am I to contradict Pulp's Jarvis Cocker? ;-)

These string quartet versions of (mostly) gothic classics might not be for every fan of the original version, but I'm always open to a little relocation of context. (Er, not always, the 90s dance version of Crimso's I Talk to the Wind might stand as a perfect example for when I don't...). Favorite track: A Forest (The Cure cover).

The Tonearm "It's an ongoing project to try to get the guitar to work with dance music. Because just blasting solos out on top of a dance beat? That doesn't cut it. It's nice to play bits and have hints, to have various peaks and arrivals, but you have to do it with a lot more ingenuity."
