  1. Rings: The Acoustic Sessions
    by Toad the Wet Sprocket
    supported by
    Kelle Alonso thumbnail
Kelle Alonso I was not sure I should get this album because I have all of Toad’s works and am suspicious of greatest hits as recycled oldies.

This album has songs that were recorded before, but they are not the same as their predecessors. They share titles, but these new songs are their own entities.

I am embarking on half of a century of life this year and this album holds a reason for embracing aging - the deepening of understanding and perfecting of craft. They revisit ideas w the wealth of life lived. Favorite track: Rings (Acoustic).

\p/ These tracks with the Watkins siblings are pure gold. Favorite track: Walk on the Ocean (Acoustic).
    Zia Hassan thumbnail
Zia Hassan This is my favorite band so I am biased, but I love these renditions and I love that they chose these songs in particular. Favorite track: Inside (Acoustic).

olyfant21 Great album, thank you for making it. I especially like 'Concrete over Water' and 'Glasgow'. Both songs are very beautiful, but there is also a lot of sadness in them that it’s almost painful to listen to. Nevertheless, I’ll be watching your career with great interest!

bernardyn This debut was (in theory) really not my cup of tea at first, but now it's a classic for me. Absolutely awesome!
    Bijeli Medo thumbnail
Bijeli Medo I knew I Love You Jennifer B was going to be a special one for me ever since I first heard it. Georgia's vocals are so sweet and soothing and Taylor's creative production is everything I want to hear on a weirdopop record. I am still trying to find an album that will capture me as much as Jenny B did but there really won't be any other one like this, I fear. They are a very unique band making very unique pop music. Favorite track: Concrete Over Water.

agronomyst This album really showcases her talent, passion, and hard work. When I listen, I see in my mind her fingers dancing on the keys. Some of her compositions make me feel emotions I cannot place. This is what it's like to indwell one's art. Favorite track: Glass.
    Mohan Thomas thumbnail
Mohan Thomas very visual/cinematic arcs in this music. restrained but precise use of electronic support (bass). the micing is interesting - I'm not sure if I'm hearing the machinery of the piano or an augmentation, but regardless it's quite cool. It makes the instrument feel rather alive. Discovered after hearing Maria Gajraj's excellent cover of Sun on exhale.

  1. White Lighter - 10th Anniversary Edition
    by TYPHOON
    supported by
    fernlager thumbnail
fernlager This album is an ouroborus, it starts where it ends, and it ends to begin again. It covers life from the dawn of man to the far future, confronts fatherhood at a young age, our deaths, the deaths of everyone we know and love, all in an ever-expanding and shifting wall of sound and texture. It’s not bleak, it’s beautiful, there’s a raw and precious beating heart at the center of it all … comforting. It’s a work that’s both deeply personal and profound, and it speaks to me. Thank you, Typhoon. 🌀 Favorite track: Young Fathers.
    thestuffbot thumbnail
thestuffbot This is one of the greatest albums ever made. That's probably a shocking take if you're unfamiliar with the album, but I think there's a much stronger group that agrees with me than most may think. If you haven't listened to this, quit wasting your time and buy it. Favorite track: The Lake.
    ak_sobriquet thumbnail
ak_sobriquet Mastery of emotion, change of tempo, change of accompaniment and mood within the same track. That's what makes great songs. Anyone can pace on through 3 and 1/2 minutes on the same beat with the same four instruments. Instead, Typhoon crescendo and diminuendo with strings then acapella to the full 12, 15 (more?!) instruments all while weaving beautiful stories. This album should be in everyone's rotation. Favorite track: Common Sentiments.
