𝔩𝔬𝔲𝔡-𝔮𝔲𝔦𝔢𝔱-𝔩𝔬𝔲𝔡 𝓢tained with more grizzled soul than the reaper's scythe and wielding a reservoir of riffs running deeper than perdition, Wild Savages' inversely-titled 'Stagefright' embodies all that 2018 might demand of both pacesetter and coup de grâce. Favorite track: Acid Queen.

Unhinderedbytalent As I understand it, Agalloch was on hiatus when this album got released, following a relatively poorly received final record from them. Taken on individual merit, Obsidian Arc is finely crafted as a black metal record that is unafraid of a little exploration. More importantly, the members have the maturity and ability to carry that experimentation off and make the record a success. Favorite track: By the Light of a Black Sun.
    Wisdoms End thumbnail
Wisdoms End Another Album that spread its songs across some playlists of mine, but I actually never bought the album.
And than I wonder why... I look them up... I realize the album is already sitting in my wishlist and simply got forgotten under all the other stuff which is piling up there.

I feel a bit ashamed because Obsidian Arc is on of those album that just seem "complete" with the right amount variety... it is taking me back to the habbit of listening an album as a whole, not as its fragment.

Favorite track: Dark is the River of Man.
    mourner thumbnail
mourner This is truely an album to come back to again and again. Once it has sunken its fangs into your mortal flesh you don't have another choice. Be warned, this is highly addictive with its great songwriting, phantastic riffs and huge sound. It's warm, it's cold. Sometimes more black metal, sometimes more like doom. It's dark and it's extreme, that's for sure. Taste it and you might be swallowed whole. The soli are breathtakingly beautiful. Surrender in awe.

nowhere40 Beyond the door was one of the first doom metal songs I ever heard and what helped me get into the genre, now that I've finally listened to it I can say with confidence this is one of the best doom metal albums ever made period. Hunted is far and away the best on the album, but I love them all. Hunted is just omugrufhrufhrufhurf Favorite track: Hunted.

    Chiquita Dave thumbnail
Chiquita Dave Never before has a black metal record brought me to tears as many times as Metachthonia has. Not only is it packed with killer riffs and gorgeous folk melodies, but the lyricism taps into a fundamental primal force inside all of us waiting to be unleashed and allowed to burn bright. Favorite track: She Who Names the Stars.
    iamtherevenant thumbnail
iamtherevenant A grand, raw and brilliantly executed piece of blackened folk metal. The acoustic and metal passages flow together seamlessly. A must own for every Canadian - or a must own for anyone who loves damn good music. Favorite track: Dead of Winter.
    The_Bob_Comics thumbnail
The_Bob_Comics While I prefer their previous record, this is some excellent progressive black/folk. And nobody sounds as poetic in their music as Joel Violette! Favorite track: She Who Names the Stars.

Jono Schneider Gorgeous; I don’t know how they do it Favorite track: Nothingness.
    ramtamtam13 thumbnail
ramtamtam13 The music is great, but unfortunately the band hasn't sent the vinyl record and isn't responding to any questions. Situations like this really make me lose the desire to support independent artists…
