If the Cure had stayed on that low road leading down from Pornography and through Disintegration into more sonically oppressive territory -- a collaboration with Napalm Death, or Jaz Coleman at his most wigged out with Youth and Geordie in tow -- they might have approached something like the mood of this record. All of them have something vital that illuminates their nebular darkness from within, and it's that dust-obscured incandescence that radiates most from this record. Guilt and Laws.
