mattgraupman I know this record is regarded as a landmark noise rock album but I think it's actually pretty melodic and playful, like with the bratty get-the-last-word-in notes of "Pull The Cup." It rocks, for sure, but it's constructed in an almost jazz-like fashion, building instruments and sounds atop one another like LEGO bricks. There's an incredible amount of craft here. Robert Writhe May be some of Boris’ most abstract work, also some of the best. While “the dead angle…” is delightfully challenging with mencingly jagged textures, I enjoy “a bao a qu” for how much it sounds like a soundtrack for a messed up Western. Favorite track: a bao a qu.
