    Svebbe thumbnail
Svebbe One of Actress' calmest and most inviting releases by far on one of my favorite labels, Smalltown Supersound. Bareboned dancehall, slug Detroit-leaning techno and deeply introspective ambient-cuts is just some of what this amazing album has to offer.
    DAS VILLAIN thumbnail
DAS VILLAIN Actress is a 'deceptive genius' in that we think he's going in one direction, he goes in his own angular motion forming a "aural isosceles triangle and dodecahedron". That is what makes Actress so amazing, diverse, and defies description. One his latest release, Statik, Darren seemingly bends reality and our psyches with his fusion of ambient, house music, old school (Detroit) techno, manipulated field recordings, and extraterrestrial soundscapes that's primordial, serene, and eerily soothing. Favorite track: Dolphin Spray.

Sable Lion This is the first time I buy a record from the first couple of bars. When the intro passed, I was already checking out to the wobbling backwards bass and then slam! Poison Chang lyrics kick in as I'm dightfully becoming aware of how right I was about this record.

    SlumCuts thumbnail
SlumCuts Truly excellent. Dave Huismans uses the ex_libris moniker to explore the more rebellious side to techno production. Like the other two releases under the name, 003 leads with a catchy, off-kilter track - this time employing more straightforward synth pads but maintaining the bonkers rhythmic stylings. I hope to see more in the future. Favorite track: #6-27 (untangled).

Stephen P Glittering ambience and rolling beats. Great take on the abstract/ambient jungle sound, brought up to date for today's listeners. Favorite track: Waterwheel.
    Lars Gotrich thumbnail
Lars Gotrich rian Foote (Nudge, Fontanelle, Kranky) and Sage Caswell (Spring Theory) in ambient-house mode, locked into minimally sparkling grooves, but uninterested in innocuous chill. www.vikingschoice.org/archive/vocaloid-emo-egyptian-specters-finnish-prog/ Favorite track: Spawn Point.
    PannionSeer thumbnail
PannionSeer Smoke Point make ambient house just how I like it--serene, unflappably minimal, and teeming with hushed, ultrafine detail. Favorite track: Waterwheel.

Neil Procter I recorded Cherish 8 from John Peel in 1983. I had no idea who they were and had to replay the section of Peel speaking many times to make sure that I’d got their name right; “Ike”(is that what he said?) Yard… I wrote it down in pencil on the C90 card. Years later, thanks to the internet, I confirmed their name, found out they’d been on Factory (a favourite label) and managed to get hold of an original pressing of this first LP. Great band, and thank god Factory, a great label, believed in them!
