  1. The Rime Of Memory
    by Panopticon
    supported by
    themetaladdict thumbnail
themetaladdict I discovered this album in 2023, around the time it came out. As my first exposure to Panopticon, it left enough of an impression on me to stick with the band and listen through the entire discography. Even after falling in love with other albums within Panopticon's discography, this album remains a favorite of mine. Few can match the balance of beauty and harshness like this album. Simply put: exceptional. Favorite track: Winter's Ghost.
    wsamsaal thumbnail
wsamsaal A very big album. Over an hour full of calm and intensity delivered in a way only Panopticon can. Masterfully put together and expertly executed. Very well done. Favorite track: Cedar Skeletons.
    pinkytheent thumbnail
pinkytheent This one hit hard. Amidst family suffering and going on trips into the threatened wilderness for peace, this record was made for me. A shattering mountainslide of wild emotion, while also having a clearer production and maybe the most cinematic feel yet. I echo others: metal and folk gels ever more with each record. Devastating, inspiring, chilling, man those chorus vocals – be prepared to get emotional. Austin, you knock it out of the park again and I will see you when FITM returns! Favorite track: Winter's Ghost.

RockladyLenka It feels like a privilege to enter the atmosphere of this album, and I’m truly grateful for the experience.
A perfectly timed release — winter and my current state of mind resonate deeply with it. Favorite track: De treurwilg.

  3. Songs Of Hiraeth
    by Panopticon
    supported by
    Jonathan Campbell thumbnail
Jonathan Campbell I got this and Laurentian Blue on CD but I literally rebought this on here just to say that The Eulogy is genuinely one of the best songs I've heard from Panopticon and that's saying something. Absolutely mind-blowing that B-sides and unused material still makes for an incredible (and cohesive!) entry into a storied discography, I haven't seen something like that happen since System of a Down's 'Steal this Album!'. Favorite track: The Eulogy.
    Bart thumbnail
Bart Seeing the growth of songs that were originally recorded about 15 years ago. You can hear the earlier Panopticon feel with the despondency and epic touches started to lay their roots. This isn't one of the best albums by Panopticon, but most can't even reach these heights. Favorite track: The End is Growing Near.
    Nocturnal Egg (Jordan) thumbnail
Sublime ! Favorite track: From Bergen to Jotunheimen.

Sam I wish for eternal autumn
    HaroldAllnut thumbnail
HaroldAllnut The blasts at the end of the title track are an overwhelming barrage, and the shoegaze-y parts of “Pale Ghosts” swell with incredible emotion. Favorite track: Pale Ghosts.
    Harold N’Hiver thumbnail
Harold N’Hiver The music of Panopticon holds a special space in my memories, in my heart and soul. Each album occupies a particular place in the fabric of my being. These places don’t have names - they have feelings, feelings that don’t have accompanying words to describe them.

The closest I can come with words, for Autumn Eternal, is “standing atop the mountain, the cold wind blowing across my face as the tears fall into the stream that flows down and nourishes the forest.”

So much more than just music.

ad_cat I'm in love with the music of Sadness, and "Kiss in October", has a special place in my heart. It's somber, larger than life and overwhelmingly beautiful in every way... like life. Favorite track: Kiss in October.

With a Kiss and a Tear With a Kiss and a Tear

    Logen Ninefingers thumbnail
Logen Ninefingers Also known as Glissando, Richard Knox' glacial guitar melancholia is paired with Elly May Irving's enchanting vocals and solemn piano along with the The Fleeting Glimpse Orchestra (featuring members of Her Name Is Calla and Iliketrains). This LP is a lost heirloom of mid-2000's UK Post-Rock, with the likes of 'Floods' and the euphoric 'Grekken' landing somewhere between Stars of the Lid and Low. 'Our Flags Wave..', meanwhile, sculpts apocalyptic drones recalling Godspeed You Black Emperor. Favorite track: Floods.

H.L. STAGHELM impress with these three tracks, which unfortunately only clock in at just over 30 minutes, but there's nothing wrong with listening to them on repeat. Epic, atmospheric, and imbued with a love of nature, these flowing monumental tracks offer a wonderful opportunity to relax. The opener, "These Winds Know My Name," and the closing track, "Altar of Oblivion," in particular, are perfect black metal for gray, rainy days, featuring some truly memorable and haunting passages. Favorite track: These Winds Know My Name.

    jcridford thumbnail
jcridford A beautiful album that matches the forlorn and foreboding of the cover art. There are moments of real black metal fury mixed with neofolk and synth elements. Each section has at least one memorable part, and each song pays off beautifully. The synth and acoustic mid-section of "Orison" could have gone on for 10 minutes and it still wouldn't feel long enough! Favorite track: Orison.

bmurator Finnish Atmospheric Black Metal. Cannot believe I managed to be three years late for this... Here now at last thanks to Ippocalyptica's awesome collection & great comments! Music that is way beyond just beautiful in a very soulful & emotive way! Terrific & one helluva ride! Recommended! Favorite track: Uusi Aamu.
    Ippocalyptica thumbnail
Ippocalyptica The days of yore. Yesteryear. The ancient past. When a life well-lived became legend, and legend became myth. A time when acts of odds-defying heroism against forces of great evil were celebrated and immortalised. The forgotten soundtrack to accompany harrowing adventures in Middle Earth. A swirling black metal maelstrom of beautiful synths, tremolo riffs, and cascading drums, at once the sombre farewell to autumn and the grand embrace of winter’s majesty. Aran has given us the truth. Favorite track: Uusi Aamu.
    fleba_il_fenicio thumbnail
fleba_il_fenicio Finland and keyboards have an historically proved and well entwined connection. This album is built on this symbiosis. Third element: a pattern of guitars in a classical black metal perspective. The whole ensemble in 4 pieces, try to recreate the (tragically altered) seasonal equilibrium of Nature on earth. It depicts paisages of soul and Nature one can't separate. We eventually feel that, as told by this thrilling trip, darkness and light are sides of the same medal. Favorite track: Kadotetut.
