  2. This Heathen Land
    by GREEN LUNG
    supported by
    triplej26 thumbnail
triplej26 This Heathen Land by Green Lung has hit all the right spots for hard rock, doom metal sub genre. It felt like being in a musical theatre playing a part of a journey into an Albion Occult. Mood, production, lyrics and composition for how the tracks here played out is phenomenal for British metal.

Fun Epic folklore from shadow side of church, land, sky and deep oceans of time. Every track here has a different style of music. All of them equally fun to hear. This Heathen Land does not disappoint. Favorite track: Oceans of Time.
    zeroesandones thumbnail
zeroesandones Sleeper hit of the year for me. Damn fine album, especially the way it sucks you in with the opening track. So many tunes instantly stuck in my head. Favorite track: Maxine (Witch Queen).
    Onuma thumbnail
Onuma The songwriting, mood, production, composition, and lyrics on This Heathen Land are among the best I've ever encountered. As a metal head for nearly 40 years, I put this up there with Master of Puppets, The Chemical Wedding, Holy Diver, and Painkiller.

I'm a GREEN LUNG fan for life after hearing this one. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. Favorite track: One for Sorrow.

tkoch19606 This album continues to grow on me with every listen, and the album sounds fantastic. I love the work that the band does, yet somehow my favorite track at the moment is the final track, From Newman Street, which is just Kassi and her guitar. I love the sound of her guitar in that closing song, as it somehow reminds me both of Bert Jansch and also old Delta blues. For me, Birds Fly, Roll On, Small Things, and Weight of the Wheel are also favorites. Favorite track: From Newman Street.
    martinourada thumbnail
martinourada Everything Kassi Valazza has released so far has been pure magic, and From Newman Street is no exception. Unique, deeply personal and soundwise great. And I just love the way she sings. Favorite track: Shadow of Lately.

The Cauldron Born The Cauldron Born

    Coraxio thumbnail
Coraxio These guys embrace the stoner/doom clichés with such relish (Satan, weed & cosmic trips galore) my stoner-blasé ass was a bit defiant at first, but 1) I did love their 1st LP, and 2) it's very much done deliberately, with a big cheery wink (see also : cover art). Like with Ultraritual, this is excellent riffage. The recipe brewing in their cauldron is still mostly stoner, but infused with hard rock and heavy metal to judicious effect, i.e. huge stadium-friendly hooks and choruses. Big, big fun. Favorite track: Down Below.
    il-kor thumbnail
il-kor "Possesed by a thousand demons, he lived for a thousand eons
His secret stash, a pentagram of hash
    Kanadarian dagger, summerian swagger
Medieval knievel, can you jump from here to hell" Favorite track: Medieval Knievel.

    by Muireann Bradley

    Otis Nugatory thumbnail
Otis Nugatory Tompkins Square Records + covers of Elizabeth Cotton, Mississippi John Hurt and other legends: what's not to love? These blues are a true delight and ones I'm sure to keep, too. 9/10
    bobstep thumbnail
bobstep Thanks to Muireann (and, apparently, her old-blues-addicted dad) for "keeping" these blues respected and played so very well. It will be fascinating to see where the music, leads her lovely voice and those magical fingers!
Old music, new music, American music, Irish music, African music, future-music ... I wonder if she's encountered younger tradition-explorers like Nora Brown, Meredith Axelrod, Rhiannon Giddens, Dom Flemons, and Jake Blount.
