It had been quite a while since I last could put a bunch of albums on constant repeat for days without feeling it was time for a change. Mesarthim's music is complex yet approachable, extreme but varied and rich. This one will remain within my favourites for quite some time. Laniakea steadily towers above all of Mesarthim releases so far. Favorite track: Laniakea - Part 1. The Great Attractor; Part 2. The Zone of Avoidance; Part 3. Dark Energy.

Nocturnal Egg (Jordan) The Degenerate Era se distingue dans la discographie de Mesarthim à plus d'un titre : la pochette déjà qui n'est pas une photographie d'un objet spatial mais une creation à part entière, illustrant un trou noir sur le point d'avaler la Terre, déformant l'espace autour de lui. De manière parallèle, cet album est un point de tension, un levier : "Laniakea" nous dirige vers un vortex. Les émotions se mélangent ; la noirceur devient la règle, la vitesse est vertigineuse. Anders Kvistr I love the epic, symphonic turn they took for this album. Stellar composition and atmosphere, literally. Favorite track: ..---.

Emery The instrumentation and composition really make this feel epic. When I listen I feel like I am wandering alone, finding never before seen wonders in far out in space--this album captures epic beauty and haunting loneliness.

Nocturnal Egg (Jordan) La pochette d'Isolate révèle déjà beaucoup de ce que l'on peut attendre d'un groupe comme Mesarthim : l'espace y est le lieu du spectacle dans lequel le moindre phénomène prend des proportions infinies. Les deux personnes en charge du groupe emploient bon nombre de codes du black metal atmosphérique, notamment avec le chant très distant et saturé, mais se forge son identité propre avec de longues phases instrumentales aériennes et quelques arpèges électroniques. Un premier décollage réussi ! Favorite track: Abyss.

Luke This album has been on my periphery for a while and I never really looked at it. I think I had got the impression that is was another soft blackgaze-y kind of thing (I have enough of that). But I got my wires crossed, because this goes hard! Angry anarchist black metal but with a spacey quality which makes it interesting as well as righteous. Happy to be corrected.

Tom Shepherd Fresh sounding progressive black metal for both voracious head- nodding and psychedelic contemplation. Immersive and highly recommended - one of my albums of 2023. Favorite track: The Creature.
