    Jason Kemp thumbnail
Jason Kemp John Darnielle knows just what to leave out. Telling moments you can hear the shape of as each story unfolds. Another great album. Could this be a Virginia Woolf reference? Favorite track: Rocks in My Pockets.

emanramen Finally! Another boombox album! The one we were all waiting for! TMG fans unite! Favorite track: Fishing Boat.
    endway thumbnail
endway I loved this album from the first go through, but it has somehow only grown more dear to me with every subsequent listen. This strange narrative about learning to say goodbye to the world and the things in it you love is haunting and deeply meaningful. Your Glow has become one of my go to songs for expressing grief. A fantastic and very unique record. Favorite track: Your Glow.

    Seedaron thumbnail
Seedaron I'm just so happy. I've learned of you as a screaming dude with a drum and a bassplayer but you're so much more and now you release this perfect album (atleast in my book) I hope you never stop doing what you love Ed and Devlin. Also Culebra made me nearly tear up what no song has done before, just so you know Favorite track: Culebra.

    jacensolodjo thumbnail
jacensolodjo There is something haunting about the family having zero clue about WW2 in its entirety. I remember learning about them and wondering and I still wonder now how many are still in the wilderness, driven there by atrocities or not. Many find being alone to be fear inducing. But they left and isolated out of fear to begin with. This music is just the tip of the iceberg for how haunting and emotional the situation is. It does its job as well as possible, though. Amazing. Favorite track: Famine and the Death of a Mother.
    Augium thumbnail
Augium My ears were embraced in a sobering poignance, whose gentle warmth and remorseful delicacy, for no lack of tempered cheeriness, swept over me in waves of emotion, graduating until it left me alone and ok again. I feel like I have been given a gift that has been a long time coming. Thank you. Favorite track: Silence of Siberia.
    Caleb Bratcher thumbnail
Caleb Bratcher It's not often that music manage to evoke emotion in the way this does. The varied structure drew me in only to rip my heart out with the namesake track. Fantastically done. Favorite track: This is For Our Sins.

    SeanOceide thumbnail
SeanOceide Absolute legend and revolutionary concertina player! Favorite track: To War (Jig).
    benhockenberry thumbnail
benhockenberry Alternately ferocious and sensitive, this album digs into the rhythmic and harmonic possibilities of the concertina. There's pyrotechnics, for sure (the air-button solo on To War!) but there's also a beautiful, lyrical approach to a number of slow pieces, with interweaving lines of countermelody -- he's anything but a one-trick pony. Among my favorite solo trad albums. Favorite track: To War (Jig).
    jadearama thumbnail
jadearama There's albums that re-define the edges of the tradition and change it forever. Lonesome Touch by Hayes & Cahill was one of them.... 'B' is another.
Stonking good rhythm that makes me rethink every tune I play or want to play in the future Favorite track: Rolling in the Barrel / O'Neill's March / Tralee Jail.

    Peter Subramanian thumbnail
Peter Subramanian I feel the artists balancing between the traditions of the style and the refined creativity they employ to arrange these old transcriptions. They both capture the essence of what I love about traditional Irish music- the raw sounds of the fiddle, pipes, and woodwinds. What really takes it to another world is their love and careful crafting of each track as a beautiful new life for each of these tunes- some wholly unfamiliar to me and others nearly identical to tunes I am familiar with.
    Fedaykin thumbnail
Fedaykin Beautiful collection of very old tunes, well played and well recorded. Favorite track: The Black Bird.
    Rory C thumbnail
Rory C An outstanding collection of traditional Irish tunes you won't hear much anywhere else. Expertly recorded, and played with skill and passion. This sounds fresh & vital, despite the age of the songs.
The follow-up album, More Tunes from the Goodman Manuscripts, is just as good!
