  1. Return Of The Sinister
    by CAPUT MORTUUM

    Nocturnal Egg (Jordan) thumbnail
Favorite track: rope burn.
    Gods Dryest Duck thumbnail
Gods Dryest Duck Absolutely obsessed with this release. This is the diamond in the bloody soil of Maurice's side projects. The kind of noise you FEEL piercing through you. Stellar. Favorite track: hunting knife.
    Grimmrobe thumbnail
Grimmrobe Fucking horrifying beyond words, Mories creates nightmares that Hell can't even fathom. Favorite track: hunting knife.
    Snyjxr thumbnail
Snyjxr This is one of those records that throws you to the floor and stomps on you violently, until you don't know anymore if you are inside a nightmare or not. Music cannot get much scarier than this, really! Favorite track: hunting knife.

Favorite track: Darkness.
    Kirk Gauthier thumbnail
Kirk Gauthier Which do you prefer? Death DOOM or Doom DEATH? Fortunately, you get both on this utterly fantastic split. I’m more of a Death DOOM fan, so Eye of Solitude’s song tickles my fancies just a bit more than Marche Funèbre’s, but please keep in mind there are no wrong answers to this question. This split is top notch, and we should expect nothing less from Hypnotic Dirge. Favorite track: Collapse.
    Jim Panse thumbnail
Jim Panse While Collapse is more or less ok I can see that I will listen to Darkness quite often in the future. What an epic piece of music. Favorite track: Darkness.

    GeN2Mo thumbnail
GeN2Mo I've been rediscovering Skáphe with a vengeance lately and this one was still missing from my collection. To say that the texturing on these three albums is sublime feels so inadequate to the experience it feels quaint already as I'm writing it down. This band has created some aural constructs that only proper poetry might really have a chance to capture verbally.
    liltito thumbnail
liltito Black metal psychedelia at its finest. Eerie, unnerving yet comforting and smoothly flowing at the same time, the beginning of SKAPHE. Favorite track: Melancholic Ossuary.
    Entleiber thumbnail
Entleiber Sinister, malicious and weird, this album sucks you into a dimension that is not easy to crawl out of, even after the music stops. Favorite track: The Obelisk Gleam.

What better time than now. Favorite track: Under the Wretched Sun of Hattin.
    aelia thumbnail
aelia Really late to the Abyssal party. Great to be here now. Maybe partially it's because it was the first one I heard, but I think after listening to all their albums this might be my favorite by them.

Frank Hardlic Again, a massive masterpiece. The 2024 concert experience of the core piece of this release was outstanding. Favorite track: Cambrian II: Eternal Recurrence.
    Nocturnal Egg (Jordan) thumbnail
The Ocean offre toujours plus ! Favorite track: Silurian: Age of Sea Scorpions.

sashavonkarl74 The "Cult..." is UADA's sophomore album, and among all, the one I largely prefer. The Vocal performance, to start with, is truly outstanding, and while I really liked their debut album, this one is more varied, and overall is technically superior to anything else I've heard from UADA. Fast, aggressive, but with enchanting melodies to break in between, à la Dissection. Highly recommended! Favorite track: Cult Of A Dying Sun.
    Abyssius Murkraken thumbnail
Abyssius Murkraken My introduction to the band was through this album. I was immediately blown away by how brutal (and beautiful) this bands style is. Reminiscent of the second wave black metal with its own spin, i cannot keep myself from looping this bands entire discography. Favorite track: Cult Of A Dying Sun.

bcb723 Most bands I can go through their discography pretty easily - not so much in the case of Cult Of Occult. Their music is so visceral & overwhelming that I lived with "Five Degrees of Insanity" for days before things began to come into focus. After a few months, I felt ready to hear more. The band just put all of their nihilism into a massive black mass of sludge pain & lay waste. "ANTI LIFE" takes the former album's power to the next level. Going to be playing this one as well for a while. Huge. Favorite track: TF.
    Courtland Miles thumbnail
Courtland Miles An utterly crushing follow-up to 2015's "Five Degrees Of Insanity," and well worth the three year wait. Cult Of Occult prove once again that their style of blackened sludge is relentless, uncompromising, and just plain nasty. Huge crunchy tones, slow tempos, and droning riffs keep this one plodding along like a war mammoth stuck in a swamp. Easily at the top of my list so far this year.
    bushdoctor1369 thumbnail
bushdoctor1369 Great stuff. We'll worth spending the extra coin to get this on vinyl if you're an audiophile. Favorite track: TF.

Favorite track: Gale.
    Nya thumbnail
Nya Both tracks are just incredible and draws my mind into a trance, such intense and beautifully choreographed sounds. Favorite track: Calm.
