  1. The Mars Volta - The Mars Volta
    by The Mars Volta
    supported by
    musemusicistic thumbnail
musemusicistic It was a surprise to see this release, I do not think anybody knew to expect new material. That being said, it is certainly a continuation of theme, rather than an expansion. What was explored on Noctourniquet is present here as well, though more matured and developed. My only reservation is that, owing to how much time has passed, that the Volta would have potentially moved on from the final guise they had taken back in 2012. By no means is the album unwelcome, though. It is thoroughly good.
    Salami Dick Death thumbnail
Salami Dick Death Another amazing evolution from this God-Tier band.

I wouldn't say it’s my favorite of all their works but it’s still easily one of the best albums of the year, a very strong release.

They retain the title of one of the greatest rock bands in all of earthly existence.

    4/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
    Molotov Milkshake thumbnail
Molotov Milkshake The Mars Volta did what they are truly known for: the most unexpected thing possible...a 'normal' album, with no songs longer than 4 minutes. Yet despite the seeming 'electro pop' style, the tone and lyrics are dark, the melodies are gorgeous and this album kicks ass!

  4. A Light for Attracting Attention
    by The Smile
    supported by
    kaspr thumbnail
kaspr The freedom of sound and songwriting, detached from radiohead and listeners' expectations that haunt the band, really shines here. Technical and super interesting instrumentation plus a more intimate soundscape makes this one of the strongest projects from Thom Yorke (and of course Greenwood and Skinner) imo. Favorite track: Free In The Knowledge.
    Dunookie thumbnail
Dunookie i cant get over this album. specifically track 8 & 9. if you love radiohead you’ll love this so much. Favorite track: Free In The Knowledge.
    cosmic_coffee_cigarettes thumbnail

TB Jørgensen Saw these guys opening for Weezer at Vega in Copenhagen and was blown away. Excellent songwriting and killer riffs combining elements from punk and stoner. Weezer were great - Teen Mortgage were even better. Favorite track: THE CHANGE.
    harryscuderia thumbnail
harryscuderia These guys are the best punk rock band out there right now. Favorite track: TUNING IN.

tinman73 criminally underrated band....serious bone crunching riffs are found right throughout this play list.

0jp1 My MULTIPLE favorites are Costal Postal for the frequent pause energy, Flyers Crusade for the really 'good' energy, The Warped State Of... for the really chill energy, SKOM for the FF IV solo energy, and Autobahn for the really unique energy!
OFC I do also appreciate the calm energies of the rest of them! Favorite track: SKOM.
    tob_ias_kznk thumbnail
tob_ias_kznk A wonderful song to start an album. It's groovy and really fun! Favorite track: Flyers Crusade.
    goatmanpan thumbnail
goatmanpan With every album these guys release they get better and better like an expensive bourbon. Unbelievable melodies from Mark Lettieri and Cory Wong give the music it's funk while the rhythm section of Nate Smith and Joe Dart give it drive other groups only wished they had. Favorite track: Exotic.

    t0cktock thumbnail
t0cktock I get a kick out of every variation of Cory Wong's "Lunchtime". I like the bare-bones approach in this version; all guitars and drums and the cleanest recording of Cory's riff in the breaks. The 1960's spy-flick flavor of "Barbara" featured here is my favorite version of this song. Favorite tracks: Introducing the Fearless Flyers & Barbara.
    sjfaux thumbnail
sjfaux Nobody makes me want to pick up my bass more than Joe Dart - it's like a Pavlovian response Favorite track: Ace of Aces.

t0cktock "Flyers Direct" reminds me of Talking Heads' first album in terms of the mix. "The Baal Shem Tov" reminds me of Traffic and I had no idea who Chris Thile was until discovering this release. Favorite track: Flyers Direct.

    t0cktock thumbnail
t0cktock The Fearless Flyers are great on their own. The addition of a horn section led to my favorite saxophone performances since "Rat Trap" by the Boomtown Rats. James Brown would be proud of "Nate Smith Is The Ace Of Aces". "Introducing Delta Force" is an exciting showcase for the band with Cory's riff in the breaks, the solos, the sax arrangement and those hits at the end. "Colonel Panic" belongs in Mario Kart. "Ambush" is the most hardcore thing to come out of Vulf Records.

Tom Colquhoun Like the soundtrack to a silent movie, tracking someone walking through a city. From early morning sunlight reflecting off cobblestones to the first coffee of the day, to rush hour, to the slow-down, sunset, dusk. Gorgeously sympathetic music. Favorite track: Cupcakes One.

yamanogato A true piece of history and where many realized gaming and electronic music were truly made for each other; not just a vehicle for one or the other. I'd even say the likes of N2O, Frequency and its successor, Guitar Hero, really have Wipeout and Cold Storage's production to thank for their precedence.

Every track and their remixes are an honest treasure trove of dare-I-say-classic electronic music. They are the heartbeat of a moment that only exists now in memory cards and old gaming magazines. Favorite track: Messij (Datassette Remix).
    TraceTheWeedCat thumbnail
TraceTheWeedCat Probably one of the greatest electronic video game soundtracks ever. Favorite track: Canada (2023 Remaster).
    John Bloor thumbnail
John Bloor The remixes are rubbish but the original tracks are just sublimely great and take me right back! Favorite track: Messij (2023 Remaster).
