msrxrex I have not heard a symphonic metal band on the scale of Nightwish until I recently discovered VOA. This album is outstanding, just listen to Underwater and tell me there is no talent...you can't! The whole Armada album is excellent, hoping for several more albums from them in the future. Can't recommend them highly enough.
H.L. "Armada" is an amazing melodic metal album. It only contains hits, apart from the two ballads, which are too cheesy for me. Everything else is perfect, from the female lead vocals to the male support, the sound, the pathos, and the varied songwriting. Ballads, fast hymns, pounding mid-tempo, folky passages, all is there. The dynamics often remind me of Nightwish in the "Dark Passion Play" era. Somehow not original and "Armada" doesn't put me in a maritime mood, but still a damn strong album! sashavonkarl74 It is Wolfheart's best and untopped album in my humble opinion. Seen them live last year promoting their "King" album, but this one here is just difficult to surpass. "Wolves" is a blend of riff-driven melo-death, black metal and orchestral arrangements and this is what defines and sets Wolfheart apart from many others, but it kind of stopped with this album, is what I am trying to say... Favorite track: Ashes.
pghm Some call this "Winter Metal", which sounds pretty accurate to me. Only from a nordic country could something like this become. A blend of black metal and melodic death metal, with blast beats and long monotonic guitars blended with melodies and crushing vocals.
I'd listen to the album as a whole, not some individual track. Let it take you to the middle of icy nature. Favorite track: Hail of Steel.more...

Gale Force Wind Ancient Empire are back after only a year of downtime and they're just as strong as ever, in fact they've added a bit more balladry on this one. The riffs are amazing, the playing is tight, and the story is amazing. I'm convinced Joe Liszt cannot record a bad album, everything he's done, from Hellhound to Shadowkiller to Ancient Empire, every single record kicks ass! Favorite track: Edge Of The Abyss.more...

pko A level of melody and severe riffage found only in the greatest of At the Gates cover bands, but wait it's also quite the awesome bundle of Black Metal that sounds like Power Metal and is that a banjo? Oh, and the CD comes with a free patch, so, yeah, it's pretty great. Dumb jokes and excited ranting aside this album is tied for my second favorite album of the year (behind Ad Nihil's debut and with Sacred Monster's album) and now one of my all time favorite Melodic DM albums.
