    hodgepodgenoodlehead thumbnail
hodgepodgenoodlehead Had to pick this one up after Troy played it relentlessly on KEXP. The good news is, it's not a bunch of filler thrown in around Tux (which is of course is an undeniable, dancefloor filling jam). This is packed with ear worms Favorite track: Bless This Mess.
    energydiluted thumbnail
energydiluted Easily the band's most fun, danceable, and silliest album yet, and it rules. The song about a damn tuxedo is legit a top 10 of the year for me. Favorite track: Tux (Your Body Fills Me, Boo).

thesockninja Saw them live in Austin on 10/11 and bandcamp fridays are the best *fingerguns* Favorite track: Dead & Gone.
    DW thumbnail
DW Not often a band ages as well as this. Big production, strong vocals, stadium-worthy hooks and a perfect balance of industrial rock & ebm, with plentiful nods to metal, goth and pop. A lot of fun played loudly. Favorite track: Ghost.
    _travelrec_ thumbnail
_travelrec_ Great melting between Rock and Industrial. Great voice and creativity. Thanks a lot for this piece of music! Favorite track: Ghost.

  5. Chants from Another Place
    by Jonathan Hultén
    supported by
    Carsten Pieper thumbnail
Carsten Pieper Dark folky songs with a mystical feel. I love the acoustic arrangement/vocal arrangements. Everything done by Jonathan Hultén himself, who has been playing electric guitar in Swedish death metal band Tribulation for 16 years and only recently left them. It will be quite interesting to see, where his future way will lead him! Favorite track: The Mountain.
    Entleiber thumbnail
Entleiber One sweet spell of an album. Deeply enchanting and atmospheric, and all that created by Jonathan's lovely voice and an acoustic guitar, sometimes a piano. Magical interludes. Music to forget about the world and discover a hidden one instead. A phantastic journey. Favorite track: The Roses.
    Nickie Harte Kelly thumbnail
Nickie Harte Kelly Understated acoustic offering from this Swedish artist more known for his forays in the gothic gloom oeuvre. Stunningly haunting and spare, Hultén also is a talented illustrator, as the art nouveau inspired cover art proves. Favourite Track: A Dance in the Road Favorite track: A Dance In The Road.
    berelex thumbnail
berelex A journey through tones and unkown lands. Truly lovely. Favorite track: Where Devils Weep.

    sophiebbls thumbnail
sophiebbls Such a groovy and fun album. Consistently feels like a hidden away 80s hit when it only came out 10 years ago. So glad I gave this a listen. Favorite track: Touch-Tone Telephone.

  3. Your Best American Girl
    by Mitski
    supported by
    Steven Moses thumbnail
Steven Moses Holy heck. Mitski starts out this song shyly, from the audible reverby clicktrack left in the mix, to the unsure "hmm" that sounds like she's making sure she starts singing in the right key. The chorus opens up to one of the most assuredly heartwrenching professions of unrequited love ever put to record, complete with biting observations about race in the 21st century.
    Morgenstern thumbnail
Morgenstern Great build-up and very fresh.
    Katie Brookfield thumbnail
Katie Brookfield Everything I love about Mitski in one track. Can't wait for the whole album.

    Argon thumbnail
Argon Arguably the best "post punk meets depressive black metal" group since the short lived Amesoeurs. Favorite track: portugal.
    brantly thumbnail
brantly AFCC continue to evolve while not straying from their fundamental sound. The post-black metal aspect is still there, but the band has become more of a smeary amalgamation of screamo, synth-heavy 80's pop and post-punk-ey shoegaze, not totally unlike Clouds Collide, but it's like Suis la Lune, Velvet Cacoon, & Ride were stitched together by a mad tailor in an alternative universe. I wish this was a 7" record instead of a digital release, but, regardless, another stellar release by this great band

Travis Johnson This song is both extremely catchy and powerful at the same time. Actually, I think I can say that for this entire album. You're an amazing band! Keep up the fantastic work! Favorite track: Impossible Weight - feat. Sharon Van Etten.

    Norm Fischer thumbnail
Norm Fischer This is such a star making album. Margo's voice has never been stronger, and the 70s Rock arrangements really suit her.

And the keyboard playing really slays. Favorite track: Prisoner Of the Highway.
    tok_brew thumbnail
tok_brew Love your music, love where you're coming from. So far have listened to this album once. I can tell it'll sound better each time I listen to it. Just read your article in RS 8/2020, the last paragraph sums it up. Hope to see a drive-in show someday.

    Raphael Hoermann thumbnail
Raphael Hoermann Fantastic album, one of my favourites of 2020! An immensely groovy but laid-back, political album that engages with the post-Brexit ghosts of the British Empire. Never has a song about racist police violence sounded so cheerful! ("Everywhere That Wog Army Roam")
