  1. A Drop of Light
    by All Traps on Earth
    supported by
    aFriendlyBullet thumbnail
aFriendlyBullet Brutally dark, heavy, and complex while still managing to have moments of absolute beauty. I would describe this beast as "darkly whimsical" or perhaps "heart-wrenchingly pretty"... something along those lines.

incredibly impressive playing here too and an album I find to be (personally) exhausting at first, but one that compels the listener to keep delving deeper into its madness (the best kind of album)

side note: the final passage in #5 gives me utter goosebumps 👍 beautiful synth Favorite track: Bortglömda Gårdar.
    JoeHiYo thumbnail
JoeHiYo Haunting mellotrons, dark Crimson-inspired horns, beautiful operatic vocals, slick jazzy drumming, guitars I guess? (sorry), playful, tons of energy, eerie, spooky, emotional. What's not to love? Favorite track: All Traps on Earth.
    Egg Wizard thumbnail
Egg Wizard This is a fantastic, cinematic listen of precise movements and virtuosic rhythmic switch ups. Zero dull moments, a rollercoaster ride of prog rock. Favorite track: All Traps on Earth.

Jono Schneider Insane, some of the very best ZEUHL I have heard. Drumming is particularly sick.
    honeycombguy thumbnail
honeycombguy This album is a hidden gem of classic prog, even if you can't exactly understand the lyrics. Love the electric piano and the drumming on this album. Favorite track: Småfolket.

Brent Davis Devastatingly good! - would never have thought a "heavy metal/occult rock" release could have this kind of energy or even feel relevant.

    Scimitar/Scimitarium 1 truly packs a wallop!

(If you like fast, post-punky, melodic black metal, check this out.)

    🤘🌹🇿🇦 Favorite track: Ophidia.

Poesy Rider Un thrash death sans fioritures, bien éxécuté, qui donne envie de ressortir la PS1 pour jouer à Duke Nukem et éclater les enemis par centaines ! Favorite track: Ruination.
    progdolphin thumbnail
progdolphin From Dying Suns can’t help but charm with their dungeon crawling aesthetic and ridiculous musical command. Bass-forward, rifftacular, and melodic, Calamity delivers truly exuberant death metal with tech and bombast aplomb. Favorite track: Ascent.
    IAmRevEvil thumbnail
IAmRevEvil a banger, tech death at its finest. one of my favorite releases of May 2024

Guardians Of Asgaard Guardians Of Asgaard

    Michael thumbnail
Michael Probably the first time I heard them was either on Rocksmith or YouTube. They like Vikings and Norse Mythology and such. If I ever wanted to write songs inspired by sagas I'd probably want to give some consideration to what Amon Amarth did. Guardian of Asgaard Thor just happens to abbreviate into GOAT. 🤔 Favorite track: Guardians Of Asgaard.
    temptingtim3 thumbnail
temptingtim3 best of the best of their catalog Favorite track: Tattered Banners And Bloody Flags.
    Obsidian One thumbnail
Obsidian One 'Twilight Of The Thunder God' is one of Amon Amarth's most recognizable tracks, but this album offers much more than a few highlights. The first four tracks are all epic, and the intro to 'Tattered Banners And Bloody Flags' is unforgettable. Nobody does melodic Viking metal better than these Swedish death warriors.
