DAS VILLAIN I sympathize with The Twilight Sad of losing a family member. I lost my father to cancer in 2017 and my mom of respiratory failure in 2018. This album is the band's way of coping with their loss that delves into the synthpop / darkwave /shoegaze side. It's never easy losing a loved one-as I still mourn them, but it gets easier-where The Twilight Sad helps ease one's pain as they ease there own. Favorite track: DESIGNED TO LOSE.

Christian I absolutely love this album. One of the best modern doom metal albums in recent memory. Excellent vocal work, great droning guitars, and an awesome fantasy backdrop to boot. Very reminiscent of the Sword but with more haunting vocals. Favorite track: CRYSTAL CAVE.

Sprenzee Castle Rat makes me want Golden Axe to be my true reality. Favorite track: WIZARD.

Sun. Disappear Castle Rat are absolutely killing it.

They’ve put in the time and paid an absolute fuck ton of dues.

I’ve seen them being disparaged in the Doom community over some misconceived lack of “riffs”. 🙄

Castle Rat are arguably 10x more Metal than 80% of whatever else that happens to pass as “metal” these days.

Zachary Simon It’s …a challenge…to hear the new blood give their whole hearts to formulaic retro when there was already too much formulaic in the formula forty years ago. It’s a JOY then when about a quarter of the tracks here truly stand out 🎷🫡 Favorite track: The Second Stage: Denial.
