DAS VILLAIN I remember when this release came out in 1989. I was barely 17 years old in 1989 and De La Soul's debut album was a game changer! Jazzy grooves, oddball samples, and a deeper state of consciousness was a creation well ahead of its time! Many in the rap/hip hop community summarily disavowed this album, but they were being reductive, as usual.
