SlithyToves sound quality so much better than the 2010 release (with white cover). The opening drum salvo is something I can listen to over and over all by itself. Gayle's playing continues to unlock for me. Find myself returning to this more and more. Challenging perhaps, but fascinating, and those things often seem interrelated. It's a thrill to ride along on their incredible energy.

  1. Bill Orcutt

SlithyToves I can listen to Christmas On Earth over and over. Still trying to put my finger on it, but sometimes I get the strange sensation Orcutt hasn’t created his music, but passively manifested it, like the music of a wind chime if the wind chime was a soul with life blowing through it. An aesthetically powerful illusion of immediacy. Maybe more to do with the type of listening it induces in me? If you bring your ears you will leave them here. Many thanks to Stephen Spencer for the track info. Favorite track: Christmas On Earth.
    noiseonport thumbnail
noiseonport there isn't many words that can capture a feeling, an emotion...saudade is a Brazilian Portuguese word that I've yet to find anything that can encompass it save for this album. thanks bill.
    Stephen Spencer thumbnail
Stephen Spencer For all intents and purposes, "Christmas on Earth" is a performance art film about genital worshipping Favorite track: Christmas On Earth.

    Nickie Harte Kelly thumbnail
Nickie Harte Kelly Meg Baird, former Espers singer and drummer, is joined by some fine SF Bay Area musicians, Ethan Miller on bass, and Noel Von Harmonson and Charlie Saufley, both on guitars. The release is haunted by the ghost of SF psych, and bewitchingly so, with Meg’s ethereal vocals spinning out and over the thickly reverb-y and controlled feedback of the two guitarists. This may sound like it won’t make sense together, but it does. Favorite track: Beneath Fields.
    bmc thumbnail
bmc One of the most beautiful and emotional psych rock trips you can ever take. An underrated slab of audio gold. Favorite track: Seventeen Landscapes.

woe_bonnet Cask-aged obnoxious! High Drag, Hard Doin'?! Sha-pow!!! Whilom is some sort of a masterpiece. So is Trash Dog, for that matter - I swear they're playing cellos, not guitars.
    ben26 thumbnail
ben26 Brian Turner sent me from Gimmeradio! Loving Endless Boogie!
    Steve thumbnail
Steve This for me is purely, simply great rock music. Kinda bluesy at times. Always rockin. Dude can PLAY his guitar. I pretty much love every song. Kickin rhythm section. I chose " '74" as my current favorite because the story cracks me up. ("Kiteless"🤣🤣🤣) I'm in my 50's so I grew up in KISS's heyday. Not just that... it's a killer song. These guys know what they're doing. Favorite track: Back in '74.

    Eve McGivern thumbnail
Eve McGivern Because it's Flying Nun. Some of the best choices are here, some notably missing, but it's a tight little comp. Favorite track: She Speeds.
    Gavin Hellyer thumbnail
Gavin Hellyer A seminal record label all the way from the bottom of the world. This compilation is essential to any serious analysis of popular music and the direction it has taken. Flying Nun's importance grows as time progresses. Favorite track: I Was Here.
    Ben Yaxley thumbnail
Ben Yaxley New Zealand had a wonderful music scene, something I'd never discovered until I found Flying Nun Favorite track: Outer Space.

Purple City Pure joy as always from Pressure Sounds. Another wonderfully careful and considered restoration of a classic.

Whole album is a beautiful fusion of funk, reggae and African stylings, but Silent Force is the absolute one!

Sheer, unbridled addictive grooves throughout. Favorite track: Silent Force.
