When the band is playing together they sound like genre veterans, but the solos come off as tepid and the bits of vocal variety suggest a lack of comfort from the frontman. Thankfully that can all be fixed with experience, and this album is a great foundation to build on! Favorite track: Boiled at Birth.

Ippocalyptica I had never heard a single note from Skeletal Remains prior to seeing them live in Gdańsk yesterday, and despite the challenges that they faced (the airline lost their instruments, forcing them to use other ones on short notice, which can mess up a band’s sound), they fucking crushed a great, intense set in front of an appreciative crowd. Landon I really enjoy the atmospheric down tuned guitars on Severed Monolith. The drummer gets the job done and lays down some very well executed blasting. The ethereal track, “Eternity,” and the last untitled instrumental piano track, are welcome palate cleansers. There is nothing too adventurous but the music is predominantly fun to listen to nonetheless. A solid death metal album, one that I consider relaxing. 7/10.more...
