Obsidian One Aside from Akhlys's dark ambient debut, The Dreaming I introduced us to the fantastical oneiric black metal of Naas Alcameth, inspired by his own visions and nightmares during sleep paralysis. His work has an eerie, intense sound, with dark and terrifying soundscapes shaped by its dream concept, setting him apart from the overdone Satanic themes. The opening of 'Tides of Oneiric Darkness' is the quintessential moment of the album, transporting me to the wondrous shadow realm within. Favorite track: Tides Of Oneiric Darkness.

Obsidian One Supreme black metal. Dark and ferocious. I love the atmosphere, melodies, and high-pitched vocal style. The riffs at 0:00 and 5:03 in 'Frigid and Spellbound' are phenomenal, and 'Soul Destroying Black Debauchery' has been one of my most replayed tracks since discovering Spectral Wound — I can't listen to it without repeating that opener several times. This is what it's all about. Outstanding. Favorite track: Soul Destroying Black Debauchery.

David Fischer Submission and Slavery was a capital raw black metal release, and as some others, the sound change had me shy away a little... more than would've been reasonable. Saturnian Bloodstorm is brimming with energetic, enrapturing, fantastic riffs; explosive, ferocious drumming; and compelling atmosphere. In Communion With the Wintermoon is in my eyes the best example for all these components coming together in the most natural and fervent way. Note to self: it's always better to believe in the artist! Favorite track: In Communion With the Wintermoon.
