  1. Biolume Part 1 - In Tartarean Chains
    by Midnight Odyssey
    supported by
    Winslinator thumbnail
Winslinator What makes this album great is the chants. I love the chants! Favorite track: When Titans Fall.
    Nocturnal Egg (Jordan) thumbnail
Favorite track: Forever Silenced.
    jabbermacy thumbnail
jabbermacy what a fucking incredible talent and incredibly immersive black metal experience, I can't say enough about this music it is absolutely uplifting and powering extremely listenable and never tiring, what the heck can I say that hasn't been said - this guy is a genius! Favorite track: A Storm Before a Fiery Dawn.

    spandAnanda thumbnail
spandAnanda This metal puts me in a focused trance. Nice and long, intricate and nuanced, great soundtrack for waking up before everybody and reading A Scanner Darkly for a few hours.
    papi_gingy_ thumbnail
papi_gingy_ I had a hard time picking a favorite track because all of the songs on here are my favorite. This album encapsulates the wanders of space. Every song makes you like you're on the planet they're singing about. absolutely breathtaking piece of work. 10/10.
    ClassyMusicSnob thumbnail
ClassyMusicSnob The Planets Suite by Gustav Holst is one of my favorite pieces of music of all time. Anyone who would want to make a similar album in a different musical style would have their work cut out for them. Ayloss and Jacob, who are both fantastic musicians come together and you know what? They actually make a record thats comparable in quality. This is the Black Metal Planets Suite. perfect atmosphere, huge riffs wrapped upped in gorgeous and mesmerizing melodies and dynamic harmonies. Get this! 5/5 Favorite track: Mare Cognitum - Jupiter (The Giant).

    Steven Gullotta thumbnail
Steven Gullotta It is rare that I find a black metal album that I completely enjoy, but Sorrow Plagues manages to meld the dark with the beautiful. Full review on Brutal Resonance:

everything I could ask for. incredible debut. so much love 💚
    kaese_nachos thumbnail
kaese_nachos "Twillight" is such an immersive title.
The use of a keyboard is great. The music is kind of melancholic and uplifting too. Also it is pretty cold with those distorted guitars and the mastering :) Favorite track: Twilight.

    Der Brecher thumbnail
Der Brecher I‘m glad I found this record. Beautiful listening experience all the way.
    tchortusk thumbnail
tchortusk I love the whole album in sum, so I don't have one favorite track. Atmospheric and layered and reverby/airy without sounding overly repetitive; this is due to the adding of complementary guitar parts/songwriting & varying between songs but retaining a core sound. The demo is perfect in its imperfection: there are some "mistakes" and "noise" that only enhance the experience *greatly*.
    JDMP thumbnail
JDMP splendid mix of raw fury, soaring guitars, and measures of beautiful dungeon synth that brings everything together. Magnificent record.

  5. The Escapist
    by Old Sorcery
    supported by
    Yawning Druid thumbnail
Yawning Druid Dungeon synth the way it should be. Absolutely phenomenal album. Favorite track: Gem Hoarder Goblin.
    C Rader thumbnail
C Rader Simply a wonderful, extremely well composed, lush and beautiful album. From the artwork to the compositions, this release is by far the most mature and ambitious Old Sorcery material to date. Closing out the album with a little nod towards Summoning and thanking Steven Erikson in the liner is an especially welcome treat. In terms of DS/Fantasy, this is hands down the best of the year. Favorite track: Starlit Belfry Tower.
     thumbnail
Their best album yet. Full of wonderfully lush melodies. Far from the run of the mill, predicable dungeon synth albums, that seem to be countless at this stage. Favorite track: The Badger-folk Moot.

    Anders Kvistr thumbnail
Anders Kvistr A space opera that immerses you from the first sound. Favorite track: Arrival Pt 3.
    Lloyd James thumbnail
Lloyd James A mesmerising exploration of the melodic side of cosmic BM, synths take a lead melodic voice rather than guitar/vocals to great effect. Closer ‘Type IV’ is an absolute journey worthy of the satellite image that adorns the cover. One of my favourite releases of 2023. Favorite track: Type IV.
    Gareth Alan thumbnail
Gareth Alan This is what happens when a black metal band finds a spaceship in the forest! Favorite track: Arrival Pt 2.

Lonely Sentinel This is a true hidden gem of the genre. Really echoes the aspects of the dark souls universe, yet it's also a brilliant dungeon synth album in it's own right. Favorite track: The Bell and Resurrection.
    tapeless thumbnail
tapeless Incredibly atmospheric and a pleasure to listen to while working. Not only is it a great homage to Dark Souls, but it gives me Old School Runescape vibes. Favorite track: From Peak to Festering Deep.

I hope for an entire album on this mood. Favorite track: Scavenger.
    Pigfoot Nosebeggar thumbnail
Pigfoot Nosebeggar I've been a fan of scattle for so long that I'm basically at a point where he could pump out a single track for 4$ and i'd still buy it. The new single is dark, unsually dark for scattle, but a great experience. Favorite track: Scavenger.
