This album perfectly fuses blues, rock, and north African traditional sounds. The female choir-like and solo singing send this over the top.
I kept thinking this sounded Malian. I’m no expert, but after Amadou y Mariam I got the idea that Malian music has a lot of Western influence, particularly in the vocals. Less nasally and more melodic, to my ear. Turns out this band is from Mali, but emigrated to the Saharan region.
This has reinvigorated my interest in African desert blues music
