    Afua Darko thumbnail
Afua Darko Cuz Isn'treal, America, all colonizers, evil-doers, ain't shit people, white supremacist, cowards, all be liars and i hate liars. They lie to everyone and they lie to themselves. They will lie themselves to their own demise. Bombing, starving, killing innocent people, children for greed and a false sense of superiority is fucking a waste of human intelligence. Woe unto them who do evil. This album is fire and I'm honor to be apart of it! ALL POWER TO OPPRESSED PEOPLE!✊🏿 Favorite track: Afua Darko - YOUR LIES WE SEE.

    Lars Gotrich thumbnail
Lars Gotrich With just an electric guitar and voice, melodies float like ghosts, feedback moans into dark ether, and guitar strums weigh a ton. There are shadows of Khanate's extreme doom, but squealed and wrought from one person; the howling spirit of Keiji Haino, especially, lives in these scarily intimate folk songs that scream through ceremonies of grief.
    buttondown.email/vikingschoice/archive/b33896f7-b144-468f-86e6-0bab5bd32f80 Favorite track: Wash.
    Dan Lawrence thumbnail
Dan Lawrence Fascinating, beautiful, disturbing, and mesmerizing ritualistic blues. Imagine a meeting point of Diamanda Galas's La Serpenta Canta, Jarboe's Sacrificial Cake, and Boris's Amplifier Worship. A riveting document of grief which is all the more affecting for its relative restraint. Favorite track: 2 Coins (Tears are what god uses to lubricate its big machine of nothing).
    tOm G thumbnail
tOm G Throwing the names of Keiji Haino, Diamanda Galás, and Jeff Buckley in the liner notes and being a pisces myself...had to give this a whirl, very curious to the rest of the album.

Sam Being in the same room as these guys while they play was fucking amazing, so much talent and wonderful noise. I love other projects by each member but this album feels like each's best work, respectfully. Favorite track: Yellow Dawn.
    Urso X thumbnail
Urso X I've spent days listening and trying to come up with a coherent and original review for this stunning album, but I seem to be at a loss for words (a rarity for me). The most cogent thing I can say that hasn't already been said is that SUMAC's musical evolution and sprawling, semi-improvisational style strongly calls to mind a metal version of the critically acclaimed late 8os/early 90s post-rock pioneers Talk Talk. Singular artists, uncompromising vision, every album a masterpiece. Transcendent! Favorite track: Yellow Dawn.
    chandlerhank thumbnail
chandlerhank This album is a 10/10 all the way through, defining the dotted line of experimental. Favorite track: The Stone's Turn.

    is to smell the morning.
    Warning:
the rose is a land mine.
    Water hides,
    in collapsing towers—
    brought down
    by drones circling overhead.
    Look ...
    Change is not enough
    if the circle remains unbroken.
    Tears are not enough
    if the emptiness prevails.
    and yet,
    The drones cannot drown
    Love—
or the birth of a child,
    the laughter of play,
    the dreams of a day
    still waiting,
    still trembling,
    to be born
    from last night’s sacrifice.
