  1. Home Sessions
    by Kasia Smolarek

    Stephan Gottwald thumbnail
Stephan Gottwald This CD is a true delight for the ears.I fell in love with Katarzyna Smolarek´s guitar playing the first time i heard her. Her extraordinary musicality is immediately captivating, her virtuosity is absolutely breathtaking. She has the gift of making all the tonal colors of the guitar shine and masters even the most difficult passages with almost playful ease. The selection of the pieces is very well chosen and reflects the artist´s range from Baroque to contemporary music. A gem of a CD!!! Favorite track: Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco - Capricho XX “Obsequio a el Maestro”.

Dustin Wall It's crazy to me that these four guys are gone, but it really means a lot to have this document of what they could get up to in 2003. Love the playfulness and the unique textures that come out of their work together. Check out Madam Vintage for a great run from John & Allan. Thanks to all involved! Favorite track: Seven Formerly.

Frank Hardlic This is such an essential release. Deepest gratitude to Leo and to Mark for this release. Fascinating and bittersweet, since these four musical magicians passed. Favorite track: Has Riff.

misunderstander Gentlemen pace yourselves! With an album this amazingly strong fresh out of the gate, you could condemn yourselves to the dreaded sophomore slump. Don’t fall prey to that cliché! (BTW what’s with the “Thirteen” title? This album is *not* unlucky! And did you realize there’s another band with the same name from decades ago? *Almost* as good as you blokes. I even discern some stylistic similarities. Greetings to Leonardo.) Favorite track: The Longest Night.
    wildwielder thumbnail
wildwielder The Softs do it again! This is the best release of their “renaissance” period, and is a strong contender for best overall. At times, it’s a bit more rock-forward, such as the prog epic “The Longest Night”, and the crunchy “Green Books”. I like the slight touch of funkiness on the brief but memorable “Pens to the Foal Mode”, and “Time Station” feels very reminiscent of the We Want Miles era of Miles Davis, particularly in the chiming guitar chords and horn play. A great way to start spring! Favorite track: Time Station.
    Carsten Pieper thumbnail
Carsten Pieper Picking a favourite is still a simple task, as that's just the one track we can hear right now, but this Open Road is an astonishingly strong piece of music. If the rest of the album is of similar quality, Thirteen will be a real highlight in the long and winding Softs' history! Favorite track: Open Road.
    Steve Crane thumbnail
Steve Crane One of my favorite albums of 2026 so far. Perfect mix of songwriting and virtuosity.

    Carsten Pieper thumbnail
Carsten Pieper Quartet enhanced, indeed. The Iranian quartet has been joined by Tony Levin and Markus Reuter when recording this album in late 2022.
Hats off, again and again, to MoonJune Records' Leonardo Pavlovic for making these kinds of things happen!!
Progressive fusion, the term really fits here.

And, of course, in these strange times: Stay safe, everyone in the whole region! Might your leaders (all sides included) finally come to their senses! Favorite track: Deerand.
    Frank Hardlic thumbnail
Frank Hardlic The music on this album is a sensation. Depth and diversity galore, delivered in beauty. Favorite track: Tehran II.

dbssll The illicit love child of Tim Burton and David Lynch. Mysterious and slightly unsettling atmospheres with a touch of nostalgia for a time that never really existed. It lives in its own musical world.

Fairfax Gong seem as good as they've ever been. You think modern music's running out of ideas and then you hear Bright Spirit. Kavus and the band have really nailed it. This is music for now! Favorite track: Stars In Heaven.
    Charles Snider thumbnail
Charles Snider As if Gong put the last two albums in a pot and came out with the best of the three. Bravo, a deep nod to the Bright Spirit indeed!
