djrozbelaban The Kraftwerk interpolation on Polymono Plexusgel, the wobbly stabs on Funk Release Valve, the driving techno on Devil Ray Cove, the earworm melody of Lost Vessel... so many great moments. Favorite track: Polymono Plexusgel.
    Colton thumbnail
Colton The storytelling, the word that the listener is submerged in... astounding
    Favorite track: Fusion Flats.

𝖜𝖔𝖗𝖒 𝖒𝖊𝖆𝖑 Underground punk bands always come with a healthy dose of raw energy, yet few manage to do that without sacrificing musicality and sensitivity to some degree.
This obscure japanese ensemble, however, certainly succeeded in binding those apparently opposed poles, and the results are nothing short of magnificent. Perhaps it's the unusual instrument selection, along with the playful, intense voice of Non, singing these songs that feel so improvised but carefully arranged at the same time. A must! Favorite track: Duncan Dancin'.

valrus A real grower. Shades of Talk Talk's "Laughing Stock" but definitely uniquely Shearwater. A huge about-face from their last album, clearly informed by their instrumental pandemic albums and maybe by Jonathan Meiburg's more subdued work with Loma: this is ponderous, laconic, oblique, at times dissonant and off-putting... but also brilliant, beautiful, moving. Maybe their best? But it's so different that it's impossible to compare. Favorite track: Xenarthran.

sounds and silence Stunning album from Shearwater. Brings new layers of emotions with each listening. Thank you!
    Evan Ortiz thumbnail
Evan Ortiz Such a departure from everything they've done in the past. This is a crafted natural soundscape that sounds both investigatory and explorative. Absolutely a masterpiece. Favorite track: Xenarthran.

    Jon Vassa thumbnail
Jon Vassa Listening to a Tim Hecker album is rarely ever a time to skip between songs or chose one track in the middle to start things off. Saying that, This Life is a perfect way to begin this audio experience. What I love most about this album though is how Tim seems to be evolving as a musician, patiently honing his skills, and fine tuning his craft. His works improve with each progressive album, while new experiments are woven into the tracks, he still manages to retain his signature sound.
    Nate Stevens thumbnail
Nate Stevens I am not really a live music fan but seeing this live is one of the most powerful experiences I've ever had. From opening to end, a riveting work that almost defies comprehension (but in the good way!). Favorite track: This life.

mattaustin95 Lots of Juicy late 90s early noughties Alt rock vibes to sink your teeth into. Heavy and synthy in all the right places; it makes me feel like I'm at a seedy rock club at the turn of the millennium. Favorite track: Perish.
    Entleiber thumbnail
Entleiber Another exquisite album by this gifted duo. It is precise, playful and aggressive, and Toni Halliday's voice and vocals cover all the nuances between mocking and vulnerable. This band has teeth and is not afraid to use them. Favorite track: Polaroid.
    Smiley McGrouchpants Jr. thumbnail
Smiley McGrouchpants Jr. This album means business. It's an attack, from Track 1.

This is a very significant album.

    People take note.

It's up there with Ladytron. Favorite track: Gift.

Thomas Callahan Been wowed by Fire Tools since the pandemic. Love everything I’ve heard. Have a special place in my heart for two songs, both done featuring Sling Beam, one on this album. One is my favorite song on this album, the other is a Rush cover. Favorite track: Pleasant Valley Magic Cube Of Holiness.
