spacciathemax Ciao a tutti! Give Black Metal its due. Verona's Quir achieve a major turning point with 'Catarsi': trading ethereal melodies for an aggressive, tight sound. A powerful concept album based on the Great War. The lyrics darkly picture a soldier's inescapable fear of death and constant trench anxiety. Long, reflective tracks, masterfully sung in Italian. A step of great personality. This is musicianship of the highest order, recommended to all who love the genre at its deepest and most epic. TOP! Favorite track: Impeto.

H.L. Windir were legendary, but VREID never captivated me in the same way. Until I heard "From These Woods" at Ragnarök. Epic and gripping from the very first listen! On the way back from the festival, we listened to the entire album three times and were blown away. It doesn't feel cohesive because it's incredibly multifaceted, but every single song is a poignant piece full of lingering moments and perfectly balanced between heaviness and atmosphere. Definitely VREID's masterpiece to date! Favorite track: From These Woods.
