    Der Brecher thumbnail
Der Brecher I normally don't say things about vocals. I just care more about instruments & songwriting. And while both are quite exceptionally done here, it's the fucking VOCALS, that give this thing the last shove into the realm of absolute greatness for me. I mean what the hell is he DOING??? Arrrrrrrgh!!! Now look: I know that this will probably be totally different for you. But you know what? I don't care. Buy this for whatever reason you like, but don't miss out on it. Exceptionally good.

    Skronk thumbnail
Skronk “Doom-laden” is actually quite an encapsulatory description of the transition this band seems to be making as they evolve from death doom to blackened death metal. Most excellent. Favorite track: Cremation Of A Seraph.
    RavenSoul.metal thumbnail
RavenSoul.metal It’s Fossilization what’s not to love . Death doom perfection. Favorite track: Terrestrial Mold.
    Void Worship thumbnail
Void Worship Their debut is one of my favorite death doom records in recent history.

This one is a worthy successor. It seems like I will keep worshipping the filthy altar of Fossilization for times to come. Favorite track: Terrestrial Mold.

    Urso X thumbnail
Urso X The righteously anti-religious AA has to date released one smashing full-length (Life Desecration) and now this outstanding little EP. The music speaks for itself — furious, incendiary, and blasphemous in the best possible way, displaying a genuine (and informed) revulsion for religious hypocrisy/corruption rather than just parroting cheap, performative “evil”. Quality stuff!

sashavonkarl74 Cult Never Dies not only releases greatly informative "encyclopaedic" books on the extreme side of metal (I have a few on BM and Finndeath), but they also sign new bands. Not much is known of Achathras, as stated on the CND website, these are BM veterans and obviously inspired by the symphonic BM of the 90's Norway, think Odium, Old Man's Child, and the likes... Favorite track: Anointed With Moonfire.

    Caizoe thumbnail
Caizoe A truly great melodic black metal album. Inspired, progressive melodic lines continually permeate the rhythm guitars, forming the backbone of compositions whose seemingly orthodox structures gradually lead the listener into more unexpected territories through a remarkably nuanced use of dissonance. A strong contender for BM album of the year. Favorite track: Úr himinsölum.
    Ippocalyptica thumbnail
Ippocalyptica Their debut was 2024’s best surprise in black metal, and being present at Vafurlogi’s first-ever concert - in Iceland, no less - was another 2024 highlight for me, but I have to admit, I thought this was going to be another one-and-done Icelandic black metal special. I am glad to be wrong because this is even better than the debut, and continues along that path of blazing yet contained intensity that charts a musical course parallel to, but distinct from, Svartidaudi and Sinmara. Amazing!
    musichog555 thumbnail
musichog555 Atonal and dissonant. Odd timing signatures that switch so smoothly between a bleak, suffocating atmosphere to mid-tempo melodic sections is just incredible. Vocals are powerful and cavernous. Terrific release! Favorite track: Vafurlogi.

    David Fischer thumbnail
David Fischer Like listening to brittle teeth shattering on concrete walls. Read Swartadauþuz, bought instantly. That man sounds like he is genuinely tortured by demons, plague-ridden, nonsensically maniacal, and about to disgorge his lungs and vocal cords at any moment. Musically, Vörnir is utterly crippling and threatening, too. I adore the drum sound and occasional double bass barrage. This is explosive, dangerous, soul-blemishing, and absolutely authentic black metal. Sounds like death itself. Monstrous! Favorite track: V.
