CG What a pleasure of an album. Everything has room to breath and live. It's got this motif kinda running through it. Felt most from Tomita to Shrine.

I love the sci-fi-prog-jazz-funk-big band feels. The Jazzist's word-less vocal harmonizing is absolute beauty, especially on Spiral, when all instrumentation is layering together. Glorious.

Is that a synth/horn layer in Shrine? Distortion? Phasing? I can't tell, it's wonderful.

I want more. What's after Apex? Animal Chin? *loops all albums*. Favorite track: Spiral Era.

carpswamp It's so refreshing to have an album that takes its time, lets you get settled in, creates space, then takes you to different places. Especially with all the trends in music right now, this is such a breath of fresh air. Favorite track: Tomita.
    Eric Gedenk thumbnail
Eric Gedenk Jaga is back with a vengeance. This album is already up there with my favorites they've made, and certainly counts among 2020's best.

  2. Keelhaul's Triumphant Return to Obscurity
    by Keelhaul
    supported by
    John Herne thumbnail
John Herne I didn't think Keelhaul could top the brilliance of Subject to Change but this one comes really close. They were one of the best in the business and are sorely missed. Favorite track: Pass the Lampshade.
    jim_fuego thumbnail
jim_fuego Masters of constantly-shifting riffing and complex rhythms, but it never sounds forced and the transitions are always right on the money. Vocals aren't for the sake of it, but the combination of the honest and raw lyrics and the female vocals are strangely wonderful and affecting on 'THC For One'.
And if the last track doesn't make you feel something, you're probably dead. Favorite track: THC for One.

    honeycombguy thumbnail
honeycombguy I like the stripped back heaviness of post-hardcore's sludgier side, and I like the unconventional rhythms of math rock. Turns out putting those two things together makes for one hell of a cool album. Favorite track: Driver's Bread.
    jim_fuego thumbnail
jim_fuego Been nodding along all day to this! An impressive progression from Keelhaul II - no power sacrificed by the crisper production. Favorite track: Driver's Bread.

Andrew Unsworth Cant stop listening, a diamond in the rough. Favorite track: Carl vs. the 10,000 lb Shadow.

Lake Of Fire I really like "American Nervoso", but "We are the Romans" is a milestone.
This is Antoni Gaudí 's Sagrada Familia.
This is Francis Bacon' s disturbing and beautiful paintings.
This is Sergio Leone 's "The good, the bad, and the ugly".
    A timeless masterpiece
    honeycombguy thumbnail
honeycombguy This is the album that truly sold me on metalcore as a genre. From the dynamic songwriting to that fuzzed out bass tone, it's an album I'm always happy to revisit. Favorite track: C. Thomas Howell As the "Soul Man".

    kebekwah thumbnail
kebekwah Surprising, terrifying, humbling, soothing; I feel like I just spent an eternity in God's uterus before the sun gave birth to me.

These people are definitely onto something. Favorite track: Huayño “Ipi Saxra”.
    Death Itself thumbnail
Death Itself This is just an opinion, one of many, but the hype is REAL. You know that type of foodie truck gatherings well known in Cali circles? A blend of EVERYTHING (south america, USM, USA, indian, mediterranean...) and s2g everyone is blasting different genre of music. the vibe is usually very chill albeit cacophonous...well you take that, focus on one type of tradition/rhythm, sync the atmosphere, and say fuck mastering and you end up with something like THIS. Siblings VIBING 🙌
